Hester (Polly) Calfee Fowler passed away peacefully on Oct. 11, 2016 in Clearfield, Utah. She was surrounded by her family. Polly was born Sept. 11, 1918 in Cocke County, Tennessee to Howard C. Calfee and Hester Smith Calfee. Her mother died of the influenza outbreak in 1918 when Polly was 6 weeks old.
She married John Connie (Bill) Fowler on Dec. 18, 1934 in Hamblen County, Tennessee. She loved to tell the story of how they were married in a brier patch when at 16 she and Bill eloped. They were later sealed in the Atlanta Georgia Temple. Polly was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings during her 98 years. Her favorite calling was as greeter at the Huntington Third Ward until she was 94 years old.
Billy and Polly moved to Huntington in 1991 to be closer to all their children who had moved west. Polly made many friends here and was loved by all who knew her. She loved flowers, music, cooking and talking. She never met a stranger for within minutes she would be their friend. She loved her family and was very proud of them.
She is survived by an older sister Kathleen Talley of Morristown, Tennessee, four children; Jim (Pat) Cheyenne, Wyoming, DeWayne (Maryella) Huntington, Utah, Shelia (Steve) Adams, Layton, Utah and Rick, Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her husband John (Bill), brothers Alfred and Sanford Calfee, sisters Audrey Fowler, Carrie Reed, Loraine Campbell, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
