Forest Service plans tree permit sales

By By

Christmas tree permits available at Ferron-Price District Office and vendor locations
Christmas tree permits will be on sale at the Ferron-Price District office of the Manti-La Sal National Forest beginning Nov.16 for $10 each. The office, located at 115 West Canyon Road, Ferron, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For customer convenience, the Main Street Market, 15 W. Main Street, Ferron and Castle Valley Supply, 35 West Canyon Road, Huntington will also be selling permits. The cost for permits is the same regardless of where they are purchased.
Fourth graders who have an “Every Kid in a Park” pass, may bring the pass to the District Office to receive a free Christmas Tree Permit. Free permits will be issued until the supply is exhausted. A parent or guardian at least 18 years old must accompany the fourth grader.
Also, the tag can NOT be issued without the fourth grader who has been issued the EKIP pass being present. The EKIP pass can be obtained at https://everykidinapark.gov. The paper pass can be exchanged for a plastic pass at the District Office, which allows fourth graders free access to federal lands and waters across the country for a full year.
Permits purchased on the Ferron/Price District must be used on the Ferron/Price District, except at places closed to tree cutting. Permits purchased on other districts of the Forest may not be used on the Sanpete District.
There is a limit of three permits per person. Purchasers will need to provide a debit or credit card, check or exact change. Forest Service offices are not equipped to make change. There are no refunds.
Permits will not be available by mail or phone order.
The Ferron/Price District is east of Skyline Drive. The person selling permits will issue each purchaser a map and cutting instructions. Customers traveling long distances for permits should call in advance to determine if they are still available. Vehicle access, except for snow machines, must be confined to established roads on the Forest. Roads may be muddy, snow packed and slick. Be prepared for winter driving conditions.
