Born on March 5, 1931, in Spring Canyon, Utah to Legrand and Mary Jumper Henningson. Died on Dec. 3, 2016, in Salt Lake City, Utah, peacefully surrounded by family members.
Dorothy was raised in Emery, Utah. She loved animals, especially horses and often rode bareback. She also loved sewing and gardening. In 1947, she married LaGrand Pulley, whom she met while they both worked for Greyhound Bus Lines. LaGrand and Dorothy made their home in Salt Lake City. In the 6th/7th Ward, they gained in faith under the guidance of President Thomas S. Monson (then Bishop) and on April 10, 1959, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Later Dorothy worked for Community Action, eventually heading Peoples Freeway, which helped many families in the downtown and west side areas of the city. She established Freeway community gardens; also volunteering as a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed planning activities with the boys.
Dorothy is preceded in death by a brother, Neil Henningson (d.2016); and a sister, Delise Staley (d. 2007); husband, LaGrand (d. 1983); and son, Jeffrey (d. 1972).
She is survived by six children: Larry LaGrand Pulley (Sharon), Cheryl Lee Pulley Williams (Martin), Rickey Lynn Pulley (Susan d. 2004), Lora Elaine Pulley (Harold) residing in Whitney, Texas, William Scott Pulley. Also survived by her favorite great-aunt Lois Johnson (Clair-deceased); sisters FloAnn Wilson (Bevan), Hazel Cox (Dick), Jean Zwahlen (David-deceased); and brother-in-law, Wayne Staley (Delise-deceased); 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one on the way.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, 12 noon, at Emery Ward LDS Chapel, Center Street and 1st Street, Emery, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, Dec. 9, 6-8 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again prior to services Saturday at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Emery City Cemetery.
