Emery basketball plays in ice breaker tourney

Last Friday and Saturday the Emery High boys’ basketball team traveled to Richfield to play in the 2A/3A preview tournament with both games coming against schools that are forecast to be playing late into the 2-A state play-offs this season. Emery defeated Waterford on Friday 63-45 and then on Saturday the Spartans defeated South Sevier by the score of 75-67 after being down going into the final quarter.
Emery, the preseason number one team according to City newspapers, grabbed the lead against Waterford right from the opening tip-off and led 37-12 at the half. The two teams played evenly throughout the second half.
Senior Bowdie Jacobsen and senior Koby Butler each scored 18 points to pace the Spartans. Kolton Butler also finished in double figures with 11 points and Easton Gordon scored 7 points. Zach Jorgensen scored 3 points, Kyler Wakefield and Keaton McDermott each had 2 points and Kyson Stilson scored 1 point.
Koby Butler then paced the Spartan team against the Rams on Saturday as he scored 25 points. Zach Jorgensen had a great shooting night as he sank seven three-pointers and scored 23 points.
Bowdie Jacobsen and Kolton Butler also scored in double figures as they scored 12 points apiece in the win. Easton Gordon scored 3 points.
Emery went up by five in the first quarter on South Sevier and then the two teams battled evenly in the second quarter and Emery led 41-36 at the half.
Emery fell behind by five in the third quarter as South Sevier won the period 20-10.
Emery reversed their fortunes though in the final quarter as they won the quarter 24-11 and the game.
Emery will travel to Green River to play the Pirates this Tuesday and then will play at home on Friday as the Millard Eagles come to town.
