Lady Spartans defeat N. Sanpete/Richfield

Last week the Emery High Lady Spartans hosted two 3-A teams at the Spartan Center and they added two wins to their season total.
Emery defeated North Sanpete 51-35 on Tuesday night as three Spartan players ended the night by scoring in double figures. On Thursday night Emery defeated Richfield by the score of 57-32.
The win over Richfield was the Wildcats first loss of the season. Richfield had already defeated 4-A’s Salem Hills and Logan, 5-A’s Pleasant Grove and last season’s 2-A state champion Delta. North Sanpete was 2-2 this season with wins over Manti and Lehi.
Emery and North Sanpete went back and forth in the first quarter as they battled evenly throughout the period. Emery hit a pair of three-pointers on their final two possessions of the quarter to lead 15-11 after the period. Emery won the second quarter 13-3 to have a comfortable lead at the half, 28-14. Emery added to the lead in the third quarter and then won the game with reserves playing the final period.
Megan Jensen scored 13 points, Lainee Jensen scored 12 points and Kinlee Toomer scored 10 points as the three starters finished the game in double figure scoring. Kacelyn Toomer was close to double figures with 8 points and then Erin Hurst scored 3 points and Bailey Huggard scored 2 points.
Against Richfield, Emery won the first quarter 18-8 as Emery was efficient on offense and dominating on defense. Megan Jensen hit five shots plus a free throw and finished the quarter with 11 points on her way to scoring 23 points in the game. Jensen made 11 of 15 shots in the game. Megan also finished with 13 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots plus an assist.
The second quarter saw the two teams play a 9-5 quarter with the Spartans adding to their lead. Kinlee hit a 3-pointer plus a pair of free throws.
The third quarter saw Emery add to their lead as they won the period 20-15 with Megan scoring another five baskets. Emery closed out the game in the final period by winning the quarter 10-4. Emery made five of ten free throws in the final quarter.
Kinlee scored 16 points, Morgan Hurdsman scored 6 points, Kacelyn scored 5 points, Lainee scored 4 points and Bailey scored 3 points. The team made sixty seven percent of their free throws, sixty three percent of their two-point shots and twenty five percent of their free throws. Bailey also pulled down 8 rebounds and Kacelyn added 6 rebounds. Kacelyn led the team with 3 steals.
Emery plays at Duchesne and at Delta this week with games on Tuesday night and Thursday night.
