Spartans defeat Green River/Millard

Last week saw the Emery High Spartan boys’ basketball team add a couple of impressive wins. Emery defeated Green River on Tuesday night 98-26 and Millard High in their home opener 83-40. Against the Pirates, a 1-A cross-county foe, Emery roared out of the box and never looked back. Emery won the first quarter 24-7 and the second quarter 25-7. The third period ended with the Spartans winning the period 29-3.
Eleven different Spartans scored in this game as Coach Jeffs went to his bench early and often. Koby Butler led the team with 20 points scored and 7 rebounds pulled down. Easton Gordon scored 19 points and Gordon grabbed 9 steals along the way. Brax Jensen scored 13 points and had 6 steals. Keaton McDermott had 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Bowdie Jacobsen scored 6 points and dished out 7 assists.
Also scoring 6 points in the game were Cade Brazier, Kolton Butler, Kyson Stilson and Zac Jorgensen. Kyler Wakefield scored 4 points and Kyler Wilstead scored 4 points. Emery followed pretty much the same M.O. against the Eagles as the Spartans won the first period 27-6 and the second quarter 15-5. Emery took the third quarter 22-14 and the final period 19-15.
The leading scorers in this game were Gordon and Jacobsen with 15 points apiece. Koby and Brazier each scored 12 points. Kolton scored 9 points, Jorgensen 7 points, Wilstead and Kyson scored 4 points each and Jensen and McDermott scored 2 points each to close out the 10 people scoring for the Spartans. Emery will face Delta in the Spartan Center on Dec. 14, Wednesday, and will then travel to North Sanpete to play the Hawks on Friday. Emery will close out the week by hosting the Carbon Dinos on Saturday night.
