When it comes time for Carbon vs. Emery in just about any sport one must disregard the season record or the favorite and just plan on attending knowing that you are about to watch a heck of a game. Last Saturday night did not disappoint. Emery came into the game still undefeated in the young season while Carbon came into the game with about a .500 season record but it did not matter.
Emery ended up winning the game 54-48 but the Dinos led virtually for the first three quarters of the game. Emery trailed 8-6 after the first quarter because they couldn’t get the ball to go through the hoop. Emery trailed 20-18 at the half and should have felt good about that score as they still had trouble getting the ball to go through the hoop. The score was tied at the end of the third quarter 33-33 and then finally the Spartans jumped ahead and stayed there to secure the hard-fought victory. Emery shot 55 percent at the free throw line, 41 percent on two-point shots and 23 percent on three point shots.
Emery finished the game with four players scoring in double figures. Kolton Butler and Bowdie Jacobsen each scored 12 points with Kolton also pulling down 12 rebounds as he had to play the post position for brother Koby that got into foul trouble. Koby and Zac Jorgensen each scored 11 points but Koby maybe played half a game before he was gone. Koby did pull down 10 rebounds before he fouled out.
Also scoring in the game were Easton Gordon with 5 points and Kyson Stilson with 3 points. Jacobsen led Emery with 4 steals and 6 assists.
Emery also played Delta and North Sanpete last week and shot the ball a little better and won easily. Emery defeated Delta 84-53 on Wednesday night at home and then defeated the Hawks 64-50 on Friday night in Mt. Pleasant.
Koby led the way against Delta with 24 points, 18 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals. Jorgensen scored 17 points, Kolton 14 points and Jacobsen 12 points as four Spartans ended up in double figures. Also scoring for the Spartans were Gordon with 6 points, Keaton McDermott and Stilson with 4 points each and Brax Jensen with 3 points.
At Mt. Pleasant, Koby again led Emery in scoring, this time with 18 points. He also had 12 rebounds. Jorgensen scored 16 points, Jacobsen scored 15 points and Kolton scored 12 points. McDermott scored 2 points and Gordon scored 1 point in the Emery win.
Emery, now 8-0 for the season, will conclude the 2016 part of the basketball season with a game against Union this Wednesday night in Castle Dale. Emery will then start back up after the Holidays.
