Before the Christmas break on Dec. 15 Green River suffered a community hardship. The Book Cliff Elementary was broken into and items taken from the school.
Duane and Penney Riches community business owners of the PD Ace Hardware and the Melon Vine grocery store wanted to help out. Duane said, “We wanted to organize a fundraiser for the elementary school. We want to give back to our community.”
So on Friday night a fundraiser spaghetti dinner was held at the Book Cliff Elementary. The Green River community was out in full force as they gathered for spaghetti, rolls, green salad and cupcakes. A raffle was also held to raise additional funds. Items were donated from local businesses for the raffle.
Green River City Mayor Pat Brady attended the fundraiser and helped to serve the dinner. The Melon Vine deli helped to prepare the food for the event.
Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk said the Sheriff’s Office has recovered some of the missing I-pads and Kindles.
An arrest was made in the burglary and the sheriff’s office continues to investigate the incident and hopes to make a full recovery of the missing items.
Funds raised at the spaghetti dinner will go directly to the school to purchase needed items. The school is a community gathering place where residents all come together for the good of the children. This burglary has affected the entire community.
The Riches were happy with the outcome of the dinner and the show of community support warmed hearts on this cold winter evening.
