Commissioner Sitterud sworn in: participates in first meeting

Emery County Commissioner Lynn Sitterud was present at his first commission meeting as an elected official. He was sworn in at noon on Jan. 3 by Brenda Tuttle, county clerk. Board chairman Keith Brady welcomed Commissioner Sitterud to the board of commissioners saying he was looking forward to serving with Commissioner Sitterud.
A contract with Randy Johnson, Government Matters LLC, for payment of $23,000 for 2017 services was approved. Commissioner Paul Cowley said in light of what’s happened with the Bear’s Ears monument in San Juan County, Randy’s expertise as a lobbyist and advisor will be needed. Commissioner Cowley believes the San Rafael Swell is still a target for possible monument designation. Johnson will continued to give updates at commission meetings concerning public land issues. A contract with Shaun D. Christensen, Hypno Hick Enterprises, for the 2017 Emery County Fair was approved. The Emery County Fair will be Aug. 3-5.
A contract with the Mystery Escape Company for the 2017 Emery County Fair was approved. They bring in a room and contestants try to figure out how to get out of the room. There will be a fee charged to do this event.
Mad Science of Greater Salt Lake will present three science shows at the fair. A contract with them was approved.
Kelly Larsen and Tenille Larsen were approved as STEM Partners for Castle Dale Library. The library received a grant to present STEM education related activities at the library.
Commissioner Paul Cowley reported Kelli Nelson is doing a good job as the Aging Director. She has traveled to each of the senior centers to see what is needed at each center. She also attended training in Price. “She is doing a great job. I appreciate what she’s doing with the issues there,” said Commissioner Cowley.
Commissioners also approved the list of 2017 County Commission Responsibilities.
They re-appointed Lamar Guymon and Lori Ann Larsen as members of the Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Board and Ethan Migliori as a new member of the rehab board.
Matt Salas was given a 3 percent wage increase for his successful completion of the 6 month orientation period andhe was promoted to a Correction Officer I for successful completion of POST.
Josie Stilson and McKade Hansen were both hired as a part time Deputy Treasurers working 19 3/4 hours per week.
Les Reece and Gary Price were promoted to a Weed and Mosquito Technician II.
Emily Huntington was given a 3 percent wage increase for her successful completion of the 6 month orientation period. Suzanne Anderson was given a 3 percent wage increase for her successful completion of the 6 month orientation period.
