The Emery High boys’ basketball team took their overall record to 13-1 and their region record to 3-0 with road wins last week. Emery first defeated Gunnison Valley 53-26 and then traveled to Salina and defeated the North Sevier Wolves 80-58.
Emery will continue region action this week with a pair of home games. They will host San Juan on Wednesday night and Grand on Friday night. San Juan is currently ranked fourth in 2-A with a 10-3 season record while the Spartans are ranked first.
On Wednesday, last week, Emery led 13-9 after the first quarter and then 26-13 at the half after the Spartans won the second quarter 13-4. Emery increased their lead in each of the next two quarters as they won the third quarter 17-9 and the final 10-4.
The Spartans were led in scoring by Zach Jorgensen with 16 points. Zac went six for six from the field including going four for four behind the three-point line. Kyson Stilson and Koby Butler each scored 10 points in the win. Kyson made four of five shots from the field and went two for two at the free throw line. Bowdie Jacobson scored 7 points, Kolton Butler scored 6 points and Brax Jensen and Easton Gordon each scored 2 points.
Koby Butler pulled down 15 rebounds, 7 offensive and 8 defensive, and brother Kolton secured 7 rebounds. Emery had 8 steals in the game with Koby and Kolton each having 2 to lead the team. Bowdie Jacobsen dished out 7 assists.
At North Sevier, Emery led 22-17 after the first quarter and 38-29 at the half. Emery won the third quarter 18-12 to extend their lead and then won the final period 24-17 to arrive at the final score of 80-58.
Four Spartans finished in double figures in this game led by Koby with 18 points. Jacobson scored 16 points, Jorgensen scored 15 points and Gordon scored 11 points. Stilson scored 8 points and Kolton scored 7 points. Tyler Butler scored 2 points and Keaton McDermott also scored 2 points. Brodie Tuttle scored the final Spartan point.
