Both of the Emery High swim teams won their 2-A South Divisional Swim Meet last week at the Emery Aquatic Pool in Castle Dale and will now be poised to be a serious threat at the 2-A Championship meet at BYU. The Emery women scored 350 points with Grand High finishing second with 295 points. The Emery men scored 333 points and the second-place Grand team scored 215 points. The Emery and Grand women were followed by Millard, Gunnison Valley, Delta, Beaver and Wasatch Academy. The Emery and Grand men were followed by Millard, Delta, Wasatch Academy and Gunnison Valley.
The two Spartan teams won their championships differently though. While the men dominated the first-place position on the podium all night long while winning seven of the 11 races the women only won the very last event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The women won because of depth as they placed a lot of swimmers in high places.
Daryl Guymon and Nate Gilbert each won two individual events for the men and both were on two winning relay teams. Daryl won the 100-yard fly and the 100-yard breaststroke while Nate won the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free. Both Daryl and Nate swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay team and the 400-yard free relay team. They were joined on those two teams by Keldan Guymon and Garret Stilson. Garret won the 200-yard free race.
The women won the 400-yard freestyle relay race for their lone victory. The team was comprised of BriAnne Bass, Alexis Johansen, Erin Oliverson and Katie Carter.
BriAnne finished two races in second-place, the 200-yard free and the 500-yard free. Kaelee Hooley finished second in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard fly and also swam on the second-place finishing relay team in the 200-yard medley with Johansen, Angellena Migliori and Katie Carter.
Other results for the ladies in the 200-yard free were Oliverson third, and Migliori eighth. In the 200-yard IM other finishers were Johansen third, Laci Hulse fourth and Jenny Funk fifth. Carter was fifth in the 50-yard free and Brooklynn Potter was seventh.
In the 100-yard fly, Shiloh Hayward was third, Tarryn Parkins was fourth, Makyan Nielson was fifth and Eme Oliverson was sixth. Katie Carter was third in the 100-yard free and Jocee Funk was sixth.
In the 500-yard free, Erin Oliverson was third and Brynne Urie was seventh. Johansen was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with Sydney Terwilleger sixth. In the final individual event, the 100-yard breaststroke, Angellena Migliori was third, Abigail Olsen was sixth and Harmony Willson was eighth.
For the boys, in the 200-yard free, Deegan Minchey was second, Parker Stilson was fifth and Allen Durrant was eighth. Keldan Guymon was second and Malone Moss was seventh.
Logan Cox was fourth in the 50-yard free.
Jonathan Seeley was fourth in the 100-yard free and Cox was fifth. Garret Stilson was second in the 500-yard free with Minchey third and Gage Jensen sixth.
Keldan finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and Parker Stilson was fourth. In the final individual event for the men, the 100-yard breaststroke, Eli Beagley was fifth and Seely was sixth.
The 2-A state meet will be Feb. 9 at BYU with events starting at 11 am and concluding in the afternoon after a lunch break after the first four events of both the men and women. Attendees need to figure out parking before attempting.
