For the second time in three seasons the Emery High boys’ swim team won the 2-A Utah State title at the concluding meet held at BYU. The Emery boys scored 237.5 points in outpacing last season’s champion North Summit who scored 165.5 points to finish in second place. Rowland Hall was third with 154 points. Last year Emery finished second behind North Summit.
The Lady Spartans scored 172 points and finished second for the second straight season behind Grand High who scored 244 points. Emery barely edged North Summit that scored 170.5 points.
For the boys the day started off well. In the second race of the day, the first for the boys, the Spartan boys 200-yard Medley relay team consisting of Daryl Guymon, Keldan Guymon, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert won the race and set a new 2-A state record. Their time was 1:44.70, breaking the old state record of 1:49.41 by nearly five seconds.
The Emery boys also won the 200-yard freestyle relay race and finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay race. The first team consisted of Daryl Guymon, Logan Cox, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert. The second team consisted of Jonathan Seely, Deegan Minchey, Logan Cox and Keldan Guymon.
Individually, Daryl Guymon won the 100-yard freestyle race and Gilbert finished second in that race. Daryl finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and Keldan Guymon finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Also finishing in the top six of an event and receiving a medal were Garret Stilson and Deegan Minchey in the 200-yard freestyle as they finished fourth and fifth. Keldan finished third in the 200-yard Individual Medley, Nate Gilbert finished third in the 50-yard freestyle, Garret in the 100-yard butterfly and Deegan was third in the 500-yard freestyle.
The lone victory for the Lady Spartans was in the 400-yard freestyle relay race, the final event of the day for the Lady Spartans. That team consisted of Kaelee Hooley, Erin Oliverson, Sydney Terwilleger and BriAnne Bass.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Bass, Alexis Johansen, Brooklyn Potter and Katie Carter finished third and the 200-yrd medley relay team was disqualified.
Individually the best finish was by BriAnne Bass with a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle race. Bass also had a fifth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Also finishing in the top six of an event were Kaelee Hooley fourth in the 200-yard IM and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly, Katie Carter sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, Alexis Johansen finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and Angellina Migliori finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
