The Emery County Lincoln Day Rib Eye Steak Dinner was held Thursday March 23 at the Orangeville Community Center.
Nearly 100 Republicans filled the Orangeville Community Center to listen to Lt Governor Spencer Cox and Jason Chaffetz of the US House of Representatives discuss what is currently going on in the State of Utah and in Congress. In addition to their reports the group also heard from John Dugall, the State Auditor, Mike Mower Deputy Chief of Staff, Derek Miller President and CEO of The World Trade Center of Utah, James Evans Utah Republican Party Chairman and several other State and local elected Republican Party official’s.
Lt. Governor Spencer Cox lives with his family in Fairview Utah and commutes each day to the Utah State Capitol. He indicated that he was chosen by Governor Gary Herbert to represent the issues that effect rural Utah.
The Governor has a goal of bringing 25 thousand jobs to rural Utah and Spencer Cox has been assigned by the Governor to work on that goal for him.
Spencer Cox has been meeting with various industry leaders in rural counties and along the Wasatch Front investigating areas of opportunity to locate those jobs for rural Utah.
He recently visited the Aerospace Industry that exists in Carbon and Emery County.
Spencer Cox reported the Outdoor Retailers Association would stay in Utah if the Governor and the Legislature would change 40 to 50 years of public policies. Governor Gary Herbert’s has attempted negotiations with the Outdoor Retailers Association located in California. They however refused to meet with the Governor and refused to negotiate or talk. The Outdoor Retailers Association benefits many businesses along the Wasatch Front but not so much rural Utah.
Representative Jason Chaffetz said started off by saying we have to stand up tall for what we believe in. Protestors have the constitutional right to voice their opinions.
Jason reported that in his meeting with President Donald Trump he found the President was aware of the Bears Ears National Monument and the Grand Staircase National Monument. Jason said my number one priority is to make necessary changes to the Antiquity Act. He said State elected officials should be consulted before the Antiquity Act is applied to any State property.
Other elected State offices holders and the Republican Party leaders were also given the opportunity to speak to the group.
The catering of food was accomplished by Kent Wilson of BK’S and his staff.
