Emery baseball falls to Union, beats Milliard

Emery baseball gets a win over Millard.

Last week the Emery High baseball team played a pair of non-league games, one at home and one away, and ended the week with a split.  
Emery lost at Union High School on Wednesday by the score of 8-2 as the Cougars scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a close ball game and then at home on Friday, Emery defeated Millard High by the score of 13-1.
Against Millard, Zac Jorgensen started the game on the mound and pitched a complete game for the Spartans.
Jorgensen allowed just four base hits, three singles and a double, gave up zero walks and struck out six Eagle batters.
  Jorgensen threw 49 pitches over the five innings the game went and 41 of those were for strikes.
With the bats, Emery got eight base hits including three doubles and a triple.
Easton Gordon went three for four in the game with a single and a pair of doubles, scored twice and had five RBI’s.
Race Nielsen went two for three with the bat as he hit both a single and a triple and he drove home three runs.
 Also with base hits were Jorgensen with a single, Colton Willson with a single and Tel Gardner with a double.
At Union, Emery scored twice, once in both the third and sixth innings, but managed just a single base hit, a single by Gordon.
Emery batters struck out nine times and gathered four walks throughout the game.
Tel Gardner pitched the first five innings and Race Nielson pitched the sixth inning for the Spartans.
Emery will play three games this week, two at home and one on the road.  
Emery will host Carbon on Tuesday and then Union on Wednesday and then the Spartans will travel to Delta on Friday.
