The Sterling Scholars have been working this past year to get ready for the competition. The program will take place at the USU Eastern campus in Price.
The students will have an interview from the judges as well as judging on their portfolios they have prepared. The awards program will begin at 5 p.m. Teacher Jeff Winget is the advisor this year for the Sterling Scholar Program. Principal Steven Gordon will lead the group at the awards program.
Ty Mecham
Ty Mecham is the son of Kathy and Doug Mecham. Ty is this years social science sterling scholar. He enjoys his history and government classes. He has been a member of the Emery High football, wrestling, and track teams. After high school he plans on serving a mission. After which he will go to school to become a physical therapist.
Carlee Anderson
Carlee Anderson is the 17 year old daughter of Jared and Jaime Anderson of Orangeville, Utah. She is the Emery High School Visual Arts Sterling Scholar. Carlee maintain a 3.8 GPA, and she is the captain of the Emery High School cheerleading squad. She serves as the secretary of the Emery Youth Coalition, participates in FCCLA, is part of the Orangeville Youth City Council, and spends several hours a day interning in the second grade classroom at Cottonwood Elementary as part of a work study program. Carlee is very involved in her community and has worked on various service projects around the county. She can also be found teaching art lessons to elementary students in her free time. When she isn’t volunteering her time, Carlee works at the Stewart’s Market Bakery. Carlee enjoys painting, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking, napping, and spending time with her friends, brother and parents. She will be attending Dixie State University in the Fall. Carlee plans on studying elementary education and being a teacher after graduation.
Angelina Giroux
Angelina Giroux is an 18 year old senior who attends Emery High School. She is the proud daughter of George and Gabriele Giroux. Angelina maintains a 4.0 and is the English Sterling Scholar at her school. She is a published writer and is going for the Regent’s Scholarship. She loves to participate in all activities in school and helps plan them since she is on the student body student council. She is involved in numerous clubs at school and she loves to lend a helping hand when someone is in need of it. Angelina plans on going to SUU in the fall and strives to get her Ph.D in Engineering/Science.
Aubreyona Migliori
Aubreyona Migliori is the 17 year old daughter of Ethan and Heidi Migliori of Ferron. She is Emery High School’s Math Sterling Scholar, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and serves as the Emery High School student body vice-president. She serves in the Emery Youth Coalition as president, the National Honor Society as President, the Math club as president, and is the Emery FFA Chapter Reporter. Aubreyona is also a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, peer tutoring, science club, quiz bowl, tennis team, and speech and debate teams.
Brettlyn Tuttle
Brettlyn Tuttle is the 17 year old daughter of Susan Feichko and Brent Tuttle. She is the Family and Consumer Science Sterling Scholar for Emery High’s Class of 2017. Brettlyn maintains a 4.0 GPA and serves on the student council as historian, treasurer on Emery High’s National Honor Society, drill mistress on Emery High’s drill team, and President of Emery High’s Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Club. For her Sterling Scholar category, she volunteers at Huntington’s Head Start preschool and enjoys cooking. In her free time, Brettlyn enjoys reading, jamming to music, and volunteering. In the Summer of 2017, Brettlyn is volunteering in an expedition to Bolivia through HEFY to help build a section of an elementary school.
Simone Burton
Simone Burton is the 17 year old daughter of Priscilla and Frank Burton. She is the Dance Sterling Scholar of 2017 at Emery High School. She has been on the drill team for three consecutive years. She secured a spot on the All-State Drill Team, and was awarded Academic Drill All-State. She currently serves as the drill mistress. Simone also participates in Theatre/Drama Club, student council as the Senior Class President, Science Club, and Cleveland Youth City Council. Simone maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Allyson Woolsey
Allyson Woolsey is the 18 year old daughter of Jennett and Darren Woolsey of Castle Dale. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average and serves as the Emery High School’s student body vice president. Allyson is a member of the Youth coalition, peer tutoring, cross country and track teams, and science club where she is club president. She is Emery High’s Science Sterling Scholar.
Allyson enjoys her science and psychology classes. She enjoys running, biking, hiking, and traveling. Allyson plans on serving a mission for her church after graduation then attending Brigham Young University. Allyson is the science Sterling Scholar.
Riley Rasmussen
Riley Rasmussen is the son of Terrill Rasmussen and Amy Bell. He is the Computer Technology Sterling Scholar for Emery High. He is 18 years old. He has a 3.8 GPA with a 28 ACT score. He plays on the soccer team and participates in speech and debate. Riley lives in Orangeville.
Daryl Guymon
Daryl Guymon is the 18 year old son of Jeff and Joyce Guymon of Huntington. He maintains a 4.0 grade point average and is Emery High’s Skilled/Tech Ed. Sterling Scholar. He has participated on the swim and cross country teams throughout high school and was the team captain for both teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society and currently serves as seminary president. Daryl’s favorite classes are physics, machining, and math. He enjoys welding, farming, hunting, hiking, camping, and music. After graduation, Daryl plans on serving a mission and attending college.
Kyler Wakefield
Kyler Wakefield is the son of Jan and Trent Wakefield. He is the Sterling Scholar for Forensics. He enjoy playing football and winning debates. His favorite food is Buffalo Wild Wings and his favorite Gatorade is the cucumber flavor. His favorite president of all time is Teddy Roosevelt. The best thing he has has ever done is go to an Isaiah Rashad concert in Las Vegas. Kyler’s other hobbies include collecting shoes, hanging out with friends, and trying to make sense of the Trump organization.
Kaili Merrell
Kaili Merrell is the 17 year old daughter of Jason and Korene Merrell. She maintains a 3.99 GPA, and is the Music Sterling Scholar at her school. She enjoys participating in any band activity provided, including the EHS pep band, marching band, and honor band. She is a part of several different clubs, and she serves on the senior social committee, seminary council, and her youth city council. After high school, she plans on traveling to Fiji on a humanitarian trip. She will be attending UVU in the fall.
Monique Bowman
Monique Bowman is the 17 year old daughter of Donna Susueta of Huntington. She is a member of National Honor Society and EHS’s drill team where she serves as secretary. Monique is Emery High School’s World Language Sterling Scholar.
Monique enjoys her science classes, geology and biology, anything to do with the body or nature. She enjoys dancing, spending time with family, reading, serving others in humanitarian work, and being around people. Monique plans on attending college after graduation. Monique is the Foreign Language Sterling Scholar.
Garret Stilson
Garret Stilson is the son of Marc and Korinda Stilson. He is the Emery High Drama and Vocal Sterling Scholar. Garret recently co-directed his first play, “The Nifty Fifties Malt Shop Murder”. Garret sang and performed as Moonface Martin in the community theatre production of “Anything Goes”. He also appeared as Pinnochio in Shrek and as Thor in “The Nerd”. Donning a dress and curly feminine wig might have been his most courageous roll as Charlie’s Aunt in “I’m Just Wild About Harry” if not for the cardboard box he wore for the Emery High Freshman Orientation video which he also co-wrote and directed. We anxiously await his next performance.
