Assistance needed for Mother’s Day

Salt Lake City Mission Celebrates Mother’s Day

Salt Lake City, UT – Salt Lake City Mission is celebrating a special outreach on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017, to help women and children living in poverty.

The Utah Intergenerational Welfare Reform Commission released that over 57,000 children live in intergenerational poverty in Utah That number alone could fill 1,611 school buses and about a third of the children living in Utah are at risk to live in poverty as adults.

With these facts in mind, single Moms are the fastest-growing population in the world. In Utah 38% of single mothers with children under 5 years old live below the federal poverty line.

Salt Lake City Mission aims to continue to be a haven of hope by providing critical items to mothers in need. The Mission needs non-perishable food donations and used clothing to meet the demands at our Mission pantry and clothing room. The Mission is also looking for sponsors to make a sheet cake, homemade cards, and flowers for 50 mothers.

“We are seeing greater numbers of women and children come for much needed items. The facts are real and Salt Lake City Mission wants to continue to meet the needs of the many coming for help,” said Rev. Joe Vazquez, assistant director of the mission.

“We need as many as people as possible to help Salt Lake City Mission fill the pantry and host the Mother’s Day Celebration, and honor the women coming to the mission,” he added.

Food, clothing, and sponsor items can be dropped off at the Salt Lake City Mission’s office, located at 1151 S. Redwood Road Suite #106. For more details, call 801.355.6310. For additional information about Salt Lake City Mission, go to www.saltlakecitymission.org.
