A New Conference Is Coming to Utah!
A science fiction and fantasy conference is coming to the Weber State University -Davis Campus June 8-10, 2017. Fyrecon promises to give attendees a chance to explore their creative side in a unique interactive event that focuses on writing and art.
Attendees can choose from over 200 classes and workshops taught by over 50 renowned authors and artists covering the creation of science fiction, fantasy, and horror in writing and art. A set of teen classes will be offered alongside the programming for adults. Special events will include book launches, author and artist signings, Sibyl’s Scriptorium (sibscript.org) awards ceremonies for writing and art contests, Mix and Mingle at Layton Barnes & Noble, 3-to-1 editing sessions, art show with master prints on loan from various collections, and more.
Some of this year’s Master Classes are: “How to Plot Your Writing Career” and “The Business of Writing” by David Farland, NYT Bestseller of the Runelords series and novels in the Star Wars series. ”World Creation” by Larry Correia, NYT Bestseller of the Monster Hunters International series. “What’s Missing from Your Stories,” by Toni Weisskopf, publisher and managing editor of Baen Books. “The Path of Creation” by Heather Theurer, fine artist known for her portraits of the Disney Princesses through Disney Fine Art. “Fantastic Composition” by Rob Carlos, Art Director and illustrator for Robert Jordon’s Wheel of Time card game. “2D Illustration” and “Character Clothing Design“ by Philo Barnhart animator on Disney’s Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. “Writing Poetry” by Michael R. Collings, WHC Grand Master, literary scholar, essayist, and former Poet-in-Residence at Pepperdine.
To further the conference’s of goal of aiding aspiring creators, Fyrecon is pleased to welcome the Weber University’s summer STEM program students.
Fyrecon General Admission costs $40 before May 10, 2017 and $50 at the door. Student memberships are discounted to $10 with ID or proof of eligibility. Master Classes cost $80-$160 depending on the class length and materials.

About Fyrecon
Fyrecon is a non-profit 501c3 conference being hosted by Weber State University. 2017 is the inaugural year for the conference and sponsors include the College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology, League of Utah Writers, and Paragon City Games. The conference has offered a limited amount of free passes and master class sessions to those who cannot afford the conference. The long term goal is to provide afford classes for those who want to explore artist careers.
