Emery soccer team gets ready for a play-off game on Wednesday.

After finishing the regular season with a 9-3 record and in second-place in the 2-A Central region behind Manti High, the Emery High Spartan boys’ soccer team is now preparing to host a first-round soccer match this Wednesday on the Emery High field. Emery will host the third-place team from the North region which appears to be Summit Academy. With a win, the Spartans will face the winner of St Joseph vs Millard this Saturday at the site of the higher seed.
Millard finished the season with a 13-1 record and is ranked first by the Salt Lake newspapers. Millard is followed by Summit Academy, Manti, South Summit and Layton Christian. It is ironic that the first and second ranked teams are in the same part of the bracket.
After the high school site games this week, the semi-finals next week will be held at Juan Diego High and then the championship match will be held at Rio Tinto Stadium. Emery held senior night on Thursday with a night game against North Sevier. They defeated them by a score of 6-1. All of the senior players were honored along with the parents and grandparents. The jersy of Ethan Winter was retired, number 18. Ethan was killed in a car accident in November. He was a senior on the team and a team captain.
