Mike Hurst

CASTLE DALE-Michael Roy Hurst, 67, crossed the great divide April 28, 2017.
He was born Jan. 9, 1950 in Provo, Utah to Roy W. Hurst and Janet Hancock. Married Toni Vodopich, Feb. 19, 1970 in Provo; their marriage was solemnized in the Provo Temple on February 19, 1987.
Mike grew up in the fields around Utah Lake and spent much time at his grandpa’s house in Provo Canyon. He was a tireless worker with an incredible work ethic. Mike spent over 30 years underground in the coal mines and he loved every minute of it. He had many friends in this life.
Mike had a firm testimony of his Father in Heaven and in his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings. His greatest success in life was his family. Mike sacrificed much so that his family wouldn’t do without. He will always be remembered for his kindness and giving, and willingness to help anyone. His wife, children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Mike always kept a sense of humor and fought to the very end. He helped his family through many difficult times. He was always their rock, and also their soft place to fall. His arms were always the warmest and most safe place to be.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and they all enjoyed the many vacations he provided. He had a love for cars and was the proud owner of a 55 Chevy that he raced at the Bonneville Speedway. Mike truly enjoyed Emery County and considered all of us “natives” after 36 years. Provo was where he was from, but Castle Dale was his home.
He is survived by his loving wife, Toni of 47 years; sons and daughter, Lance (Laura), Frank (Tara), both of Cleveland, Heather Sundstrom (Owen Bringhurst) of Huntington; sister, Sherrie Cammack, Orangeville; brother, Shawn (Julie) Hurst, Huntington; sister-in-law, Linda Ransdell, West Jordan; 10 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one great-grandchild on the way.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother, Rick; sister, Denise Brown; and twin grandsons, Joshua and Jordan Hurst.
“We will miss you Mike, forever and a day. Keep your flame safety lamp burning and we’ll follow the light”.
