The Emery High Lady Spartans finished the region season with a 5-2 win over the San Juan Broncos in Castle Dale and finished third in the 2-A Eastern region and will face Duchesne in the first round of the 2-A Utah State tournament this Thursday in Spanish Fork at 1:15 p.m. Before Emery plays the Thursday game, the Spartans will close out the season with a home game on Monday against Juab. That game begins at 3:30pm. The winner of the Emery-Duchesne game will face the winner of the Enterprise-Millard game at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday while the two losers of those two games will face off at 3:30 p.m. that same day.
Against San Juan, Emery scored twice in the bottom of the first inning only to see the Broncos tie the score in the top of the second inning. Emery then scored three times in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-2 lead and then neither team scored again in the game.
Emery had seven hits in the game with Addy Healy having three of those, two singles and a homerun. Healy had three RBI’s. Ambree Bennett had two singles and Morgann Donaldson had one as the top three batters in the line-up accounted for all but one hit. That other hit was had by Madisyn Alton, it was also a single. Bailey Huggard had two RBI’s in the game.
Huggard pitched the entire game for the Spartans and gave up just three hits and two runs in the game. She walked two batters and struck out six batters.
