Miss Emery Maegan Butterfield and her field of royalty Lexi Gale, Miss Outstanding Teen, Kelsie Norton-Junior Miss and Little Miss-Ava Leonard have been visiting every school in Emery County.
Miss Emery promoted her platform of kindness. “Don’t judge people on how they look. Do kind acts. No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted. Invite someone to sit with you at lunch. Say hi to people you don’t know in the halls.”
Miss Emery is collecting 1,000 pairs of shoes. There will be a competition between San Rafael and Canyon View junior highs to see which school can collect the most shoes.
These shoes are distributed in Africa to people without shoes. Every pair of shoes donated is an act of kindness. “Have the courage to be kind and bring out the positivity,” said Miss Emery.
Miss Emery told of the categories she will participate in at Miss Utah in June. There will be swim suit, talent, evening wear and onstage question. To demonstrate these categories she called for volunteers to participate in the Mr. Emery contest.
Five brave contestants Anthony Bouldin, Isaac Jensen, Aiden Mortensen, Trevor Brazier and Willard Halliday participated. They exhibited talent with an air guitar, dancing, singing and other talents.
For the swim suit a volunteer from the audience helped them create a swim suit with crepe paper.
For the evening wear, female volunteers helped them create an evening wear suit in a minute with outfits Miss Emery provided.
Kelsie Norton performed a dance.
Lexi Gale asked the questions for the onstage question. She asked about their favorite Disney princess and other embarrassing questions.
The contestants said afterwards they were a little embarrassed, terrified and generally humiliated, but it was all in good fun. Willard Halliday took home the trophy for being Mr. Emery at this school.
