Emery track teams second in region

Region 15 held their region track and field championship meet at Grand High School last week and Manti edged the Emery boys 109 to 99 to claim the title and North Sevier ruled the girls’ side over second-place Emery 128-73. The Emery Spartans did take the combined title though as they edged Manti 172 points to 171 points.
Other boys’ scores were Grand 78.5, San Juan 54, North Sevier 35 and Gunnison Valley 5.5. Other girls’ scores were Manti 62, Grand 49, Gunnison Valley 37 and San Juan 30. Total scores were Emery 172, Manti 171, North Sevier 163, Grand 127.5, San Juan 84 and Gunnison Valley 42.5.
Braiden Ivie took first in the 100-meter race and first in the 200-meter race. Logan Cox took first in the 400-meter race and Daryl Guymon took first in the 300-meter hurdles. Erin Hurst took first in the 3200-meters to be the lone winner for the Lady Spartans.
The following guys finished in the top four spots and qualified for state this weekend at BYU. Chase Christiansen and Ty Funk finished second and third in the 3200-meters. Guymon finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. Cox was second in the 100-meter race and Funk was third in the 800 meters. Brady Boren finished fourth in the 400 meters. Christiansen was third in the 1600 meters. In field events, Ty Mecham was second in the shot put and Chase Jewkes was second in the javelin.
For the girls’ team, the following athletes qualified for state; Tiana Jensen finished third in the 100-meter hurdles, Jocee Funk was fourth in the 100 meters, Hurst was second in the 1600 meters, Alexandra Garcia was fourth in the high jump, Sam Morgan, Emalee Bott and McKenzie Cox were second, third and fourth in the discus, Katelyn Hurst was third in the long jump, Morgan was second in the javelin.
The following relay teams also qualified for state. The girls sprint medley team consisting of Shelbee Murdoch, Jaylee Brinkerhoff, Brooke Jensen and Tayden Nielsen finished fourth while the boys team consisting of Keldan Guymon, Mason Faimalo, Brady Boren and Griffin Livingston finished third. The girls 4×100 relay team of Jocee Funk, Tiana Jensen, Jaylee Brinkerhoff and Makieya Bertuzzi finished third. The girls 4×400 relay team of Brooke Jensen, Laciejo Funk, Chloe Sermon and Erin Hurst finished second while the boys team of Ty Funk, McKay Meccariello, Daryl Guymon and Tanyon Allred finished third.
Scoring points for the Emery girls but not qualifying for state were Bertuzzi in the 100 meters and the javelin, Erin Hurst in the 800 meters, Nielsen in the 400 meters, Jensen in the 300 meter hurdles, Funk in the 200 meters, Elexis Dalton in the discus and Brileigh Curtis and Dalton in the shot put.
Scoring points for the boys but not qualifying for state were the 4×100 relay team of Keldan Guymon, Cale Allred, Tanyon Allred and Brady Boren,
Mason Faimalo in the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles and in the high jump, Keldan Guymon in the 800 meters, Livingston in the 1600 meters, Jewkes in the shot put and Marquis Giroux in the discus.
