SPRING GLEN-Peter Pleasant Jones, age 92, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Castleview Hospital in Price Utah surrounded by the love of his wife and family. Pete was born to Benjamin and Sarah Francis Foote Jones in Huntington, Utah May 30, 1924. He was the last surviving member of their nine children.
Raised in Huntington, Pete completed the seventh grade and then continued to work on his family farm, becoming a common man’s scholar in many trades. After being drafted at the age of eighteen, he enter the US Army infantry and fought in Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II attaining the rank of PFC with mechanic and sniper ratings.
Following his honorable military service, Pete returned home to Huntington, Utah and worked the family farm and in his brother Que Jones’s auto shop. In 1950, he met his sweetheart, lifelong, and eternal companion Marjorie Jean Murray and were sealed in the Manti Temple on Feb. 13, 1951. Early work had him taking care of turkeys and working lumber in Oregon with his brother Jewel (Dude). Upon returning to Utah, he worked temporarily in the LDS church mine by Orangeville until he found a home at the Utah Railway in Martin Utah, retiring as a carman in 1987. He and his wife adopted seven children and he continued to be the head of his family and spiritual leader throughout his life.
Pete is survived by his wife, Jean Jones; his children, Peter (Staci) Jones, Tammy (Jan) Curtis, Susan Keith, Sherie (Butch) Grant, Korin (Mark) Johnson, Benjamin (Sharon) Jones; 20 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by their daughter Edna Jean Jones and granddaughter Sheree Rosella Grant.
Funeral service, Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 10 a.m., Carbonville First LDS Ward, located at 1985 West 4000 North in Spring Glen. The family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, 2 p.m., Provo City Cemetery.
