The Canyon View eighth grade closing program was held following the ninth grade program. This eighth grade class will move to Emery High as the first ninth grade class ever to attend Emery High. Coach Ferd Allred presented the athlete awards to Jayce Bradley and Aiden Mortensen. These awards are given with input from coaches. These students set records and were on championship teams at the school.
The straight A students were honored: Arilyn Allred, Kylee Cunningham, Taylor Durrant, Hayley Guymon, Annalyce Rudd and Luke Stilson. These students presented talks at the program. Allred said the students have been involved in many extracurricular activities including sports and clubs. While they are out on activities she stressed the importance of making up their work from when they are gone. It is well worth it to be involved and interact with new people. You don’t want to get in trouble at school because you want to play. Our memories are ties to emotion. We’ve had highs and lows. After long hours of practice we’ve competed at other schools. These hosting schools bring people together to give us a chance to show how well we can do. Thanks to Ferd for challenging me.
Kylee Cunningham said penicillin was discovered by accident. Mold can destroy bacteria. Mistakes are not always bad. If you maintain a positive attitude. Mistakes are one of the greatest teachers as you go through life. Mistakes lead to the desired finish and teach valuable life lessons. We will all make mistakes. We have everything around us because someone tried something new. It’s been a great two years at Canyon View.
Taylor Durrant said he was really scared coming into junior high. He had to get to know the teachers and work hard to stay on top of things. He said playing video games instead of doing your homework on time won’t help you get good grades. The teachers are good about helping out. If you don’t understand something then ask. It’s OK to have fun, but not in the middle of class. During lunch and after school. Don’t be wisecracking and telling jokes in class, that’s not good citizenship. Teachers want you to succeed. Work hard and do your best in all you do. Have fun and respect your teachers.
Hayley Guymon said they have learned and grown, they will be the first class of ninth graders to go to Emery High. They are the best class ever. They will make their dreams reality. They will dare to dream big. A dream is a wish you made when asleep. Have faith in your dreams. Unless you work hard, nothing will happen. In Zootopia the rabbit wanted to become a cop. She became the Valedictorian of her police class. She changed all of Zootopia. All our adventures won’t be cupcakes, but don’t give up when hard things happen. You have a great support system, look at all who have helped you. Your teachers and parents, our principal, Roma, you can always go talk to Roma. Everyone has spent countless hours on us. Thanks for what you do. Dr. Seuss said you’re off to great places, so get on your way. Have a great summer and dream big.
Annalyce Rudd said she set a goal to get straight A grades. Be determined to get things done. Take small steps toward your goal. In seventh grade I worked hard and wanted to make the volleyball team. But I didn’t get on, so I put my efforts into track. I am very competitive and like to be the best. Work toward your goals and setting goals.
Luke Stilson said he enjoys athletics and you can learn a lot from them, but sports are not the main reason you are in school. You need to go to class and get decent grades, so you can play sports. Stay out of trouble or you can’t play. Don’t throw anything larger than a nickle in Mr. Collards class. He said he’s written many PE reports for Ferd and asked do you even read those Ferd.
Sometimes I ask is it worth the hassle, it education more important than athletics. Without education in 10 years, you wouldn’t get anywhere. Without athletics you would be fine, but you might have no fun. Thanks to all the teachers and staff, parents and siblings. Getting an education is worth it.
Principal Yvonne Jensen said she will miss the kids and they will miss having lunch with her. They’ve had their ups and downs but have worked really hard to make it. They will continue to do big things. Don’t be afraid to fail at something. Work hard and you can be successful in anything you choose. Don’t fear failure. Don’t give up on your goals. According to Dr. Seuss, it’s up to you to decide where you will go. Whatever the game, whatever the odds, it’s up to you.
