The Castle Dale Librarians hosted the last adult STEM, book discussion, made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The book that was discussed was When the killing’s done by T.C. Boyle. Scott Labrum was the science partner for the evening and led an interesting discussion on how people push the limits of their bodies and overcome their setbacks, whether they be from injuries or surgeries.
The Castle Dale Library began programs for this grant in October 2016, and finished in May 2017.
They are expecting to receive another grant this fall and will offer more programs for the community then.
During this round of the grant the Castle Dale Library has given four adult book/science discussions, and four family STEM night.
The theme of the programs was called: Pushing the Limits with four different sub-themes called: Knowledge, Connection, Survival and Nature.
For these programs they partnered with different members of the community who shared their stories and expertise, Larry and Carolyn Randall, Kelly and Teneil Larsen, Joey Birch and Scott Labrum.
One of the goals of the National Science Foundation was for participants to participate in informal science learning, and the library feels they have helped fulfill this goal. We hope that the people in the communities will continue to help support these programs, if they missed it, watch for them to begin again.
