The Emery County school board honored employees at the June school board meeting. Colleen Bott the secretary at Castle Dale Elementary was awarded the classified employee of the year award. Board President Laurel Johansen said Colleen cares about kids and is like a second mom for them. She is a very dedicated employee.
Jasa Norton was given the elementary teacher of the year. She is currently teaching at Cottonwood Elementary. She has taught throughout the district. Johansen said she has had grandchildren in her classes and they sing her praises. She is a great asset to the district and always has a great attitude. She goes the extra mile for the students.
Diane Carter was awarded the secondary teacher of the year. “She is a marvelous employee who has a lot of years with the district. She is very caring and has a one on one relationship with all of her students. All the students sing her praises. She is an exceptional teacher,” said Johansen. Carter thanked the board for the award, she said it has been a humbling experience to receive this award. There are great teachers in the district.”
Carter said some of her students have gone on to become doctors and lawyers. She said Emery County exports coal, power and great kids.
Norton said she loves working in the district. She has worked with a lot of dedicated teachers in the district and has learned a lot from them. She has the best job in the world. Her world is butterflies and rainbows. She thinks if everyone solved problems like a 7 year old the world would be a better place. “Thanks to Mr. Hughes,” said Norton.
Each of the award winners received a plaque and a gift.
