FERRON, UTAH – On February 7, 1946, Aunt Amy delivered Norma Lou into this world on the kitchen table of James Harold and Norma Ray Madsen Allred’s home in Cleveland, Utah. She was raised in that little home where she and her siblings learned to be tough as hickory sticks. She passed away with her loving family surrounding her on July 20, 2017 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Hazel McMullin was her guardian angel and took Norma under her wing, teaching her to sew in 4-H. Norma continued to sew throughout her life, making clothing for herself and her family. She considered Aunt Utahna Wilson to be another guardian angel and a lifeline. Her mom taught her to love housework and she shared that love with her children.
On June 20, 1964, Norma said “I do” to the love of her life, Jack Brent Funk. Together they built a family and a home in Ferron, Utah, where they raised their four children. Brent’s mother, Louise Funk, taught her many things, including how to quilt, an activity she loved for many years.
Norma was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a true disciple of Christ. She held many callings in the church and served her sisters in Relief Society for many years.
She spent 20 years in various positions at Emery County Care and Rehab Center, including the Social Service Admissions Coordinator. She loved the many residents she served and the people she worked with.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, canning, genealogy, baking, feeding her family, a cold Coke & M&M’s, visiting, reading scriptures, Christmas, tea parties with her grandkids but most of all she loved serving her family and those she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Brent Funk, her children Brent Jack (Tammy) Funk of Elmo, Cindy (Joseph) Baggs, of Buckeye, AZ, Del William (Megan) Funk of Castle Dale and Quinn Bret (Bobbie) Funk of Vernal, 25 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters Harolene “Butch” Snyder and Bunny Allred, one brother Harold Jed Allred and her honorary sister Barbara Funk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Jeffery Scott Busch, great grandson Braxton Marvin Jensen, 2 brothers Harold LaRoy “Perk” Allred and James Don L. Allred and 2 sisters Robyn Myers Bennen and Mary DeeAnn Jones.
