Ferron City readies for Peach Days

By Danyale Service

The Ferron City Council Meeting was held on August 10.  Mayor Trent Jackson presided over the meeting. In attendance were the City Council Members Adele Justice, Ronny Bloomer, Randy Fox and Craig Nielson.  The meeting started with a roll call, a welcome and the pledge of allegiance.  The approval of minutes, dated July 13, 2017, had minor corrections and a motion to approve was passed.
Randy Nielson, the Fire Chief, approached the City Council Members with a contract from the Forest Service.  The contract would cover grass and wildfires occurring within the city limits. The only concern was for the area of the creek bottom. The contract would require the city to pay an annual fee of $175.  The city has never used the help from the forest service within the city limits, however, if a grass fire occurred within the city limits, the agreement would need to be signed.
It was agreed the contract had no time limit and a motion was agreed upon to postpone the approval until next month. The contract could be further reviewed by all council members.
The meeting continued with a discussion and consideration of L.E.D. lighting proposed by Rocky Mountain Power.  The discussion concluded there would be an annual savings, however, the city would be charged for each location upon completion of the lighting.  It was decided that a total dollar amount would need to be tallied and brought to the September council meeting for approval.
The consideration to change the date of the September City Council meeting was discussed and approved to be moved to September 21.
Peach Days will be held September 7-9.  The Ferron City Fire Department will be serving breakfast with the help of the Young Women on Saturday morning.  The names for Grand Marshal were discussed and letters will be sent to receive approval.
Resolution 2017- 6 was approved and adopted by a motion and agreement.  The meeting continued with the motion and approval of the payment of warrants and bills.  The meeting was then adjourned.
