At the July meeting of the Huntington City Council the consensus of all the councilmembers and the mayor was that the annual Heritage Days celebration was another success as residents, families and friends from all over enjoyed the two weekends of the event starting with the rodeo. They all wanted to thank the many volunteers that assisted in any way.
The first item of business was the approval of three business licenses. The approvals were for Nicole Jewkes Daycare, Ponderosa Grill and San Rafael Hydraulics. Ponderosa Grill will open soon at Gordon’s Floral and Nursery located on 400 East and Highway 10. It will be a full-service restaurant.
The council had a request from Leonard Norton, councilman, to replace two handicap approaches on the sidewalk on the eastside of Huntington Elementary. Mark Justice, councilman over streets and sidewalks will look and see if it is possible this year. Councilman Norton also discussed the call out of the dog-catcher and what needs to be done immediately and what can wait until morning. The fines for ordinance violations was also discussed when it comes to animals in the city.
Huntington City has been offered by the county the use of the billboard located a mile north of the city on Highway 10. The City attorney advises to firm up all costs involved before signing any paperwork. The billboard can only be used by government agencies to advertise events, locations, etc. It cannot be used by a business to advertise a business according to UDOT.
The Mayor reported that a walking path is being constructed along the west side of 400 East between Highway 10 and the bridge. Mayor Gordon also reported that later this year, the path will be extended from the bridge to the top of the hill where people can walk on a sidewalk.
Councilman Lamar Guymon stated the new restroom facility at the City Park will be open as soon as the gas connection is complete. The contractor is waiting on Dominion Energy.
