The Emery High Lady Spartan volleyball team started the season off fairly successfully last week as they defeated the Carbon Dinos Thursday night in Castle Dale in three straight games to win that match and then the team traveled to St George and played in the Dixie tournament where they went 5-3 over Friday and Saturday.
In St George, Emery lost to Uintah but then defeated Boulder City and Kanab on Friday. On Saturday the Spartans finished pool play by defeating Grantsville and losing to Monticello and Pineview. In tournament play after pool play, the team defeated Uintah in their second meeting of the tournament to make the championship game. In that game they defeated Timpanogos 2-1 as the Spartans lost the first game 23-25 and then won the second game 25-21 and the third game 16-14 to win the match.
Emery beat South Sevier in three games on Aug. 29.
