The Castle Country Robotics Club held an open house at Castle Dale Elementary on Aug. 28. The Junior First Lego League will be divided into two categories. Kindergarten and first grades will be an exploratory adventure into the world of Legos. It will last four weeks, beginning Sept. 15 from 4-5 p.m. at Castle Dale Elementary.
The second and third grade category will participate in the Aqua Adventure Challenge. The program begins on Sept. 15 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Castle Dale Elementary. The student will follow a workbook guided by their coaches and learn teamwork, while developing critical thinking and problem solving skills.
The Exploratory First Lego League is for fourth-sixth graders who want to explore the world of robotics in an entertaining and adventurous environment. They will learn basic programming, build and play the robot game, and explore engineering with Little Bits. They will learn team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and develop critical thinking. They will practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.  It will run for eight weeks beginning Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. at Castle Dale Elementary.
The competetive First Lego League is an intensive five month program for fifth-sixth graders where students will design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, then compete on a table-top playing field. Along their journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s Core Values, which emphasize discovery, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
This program includes the robot game and the research category where they must develop solutions to a hydro dynamic problem, prepare a skit and poster and be interviewed by judges regarding the process they took to find their solution.
It is very important that you understand the commitment to this option and are willing to ensure your child’s active participation.

There will also be an open house for middle and high school students on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Robotics Shop in Castle Dale.  The Robotics Shop is located at the top of the hill on Esquire Parkway. Once you get to the top of the hill turn left.
