Press Conference in Opposition to Bears Ears National Monument Repeal Bill

On Tuesday, January 9, the House Natural Resources Committee will hold  a legislative hearing on Rep. John Curtis’ H.R. 4532 “Shash Jaa National Monument and Indian Creek National Monument  Act.”

The bill would not only codify President Trump’s illegal evisceration of Bears Ears National Monument but also delegate management of the monument to local officials, while ignoring tribal sovereignty. Management plans in the bill also exclude three of the Five tribes that engaged in government to government negotiations to protect Bears Ears as a national monument.

In response, tribal leaders and community groups will be speaking out in opposition to H.R. 4532 and its destructive impact on Bears Ears National Monument.

When: January 9, 2018, 10 – 11 am

Where: Utah State Capitol (Rotunda), 350 N State St, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114 or watch the Facebook live at: https://www.facebook.com/utahdinebikeyah/
