Hatch Statement on Ordination of President Russell M. Nelson, Religious Freedom Day

Washington, D.C.—Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) issued the following statement on the announcement that Russell M. Nelson has been called to serve as President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and on the importance of Religious Freedom Day:

President Nelson is a dear friend and a powerful force for good in this world. I have watched him lead by example over many decades of dedicated service, and I am confident that he will continue to touch the hearts of millions as President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I am also grateful to President Nelson for his efforts to promote religious liberty across the globe. It seems only fitting that he was called to serve on Religious Freedom Day. I encourage all Utahns to rededicate themselves to protecting and promoting this essential freedom, which is the foundation of our country, our families, and our society.
