The regular meeting of the Cleveland Town council was held at the public safety building located at 130 W Main in Cleveland. They swore in their new mayor and council members.
The oath of office was administered by clerk Shannon World to Michael Taylor for the office of mayor and three council members, Kallon Cowley, Brydi Sharp and Kristen Vose.
The council discussed the Open and public meetings act training. The council was instructed to read through the materials given and any questions would be answered next month during council meeting.
Council member duties will be assigned at the February meeting to give the mayor time to determine each council member’s duties.
There have been ordinance complaints concerning barking dogs and semis parked on the road.
A written complaint came in February 2017 about semis blocking field of vision. There has now been another oral complaint about the semis. This same person has had two oral complaints from two different neighbors about barking dogs.
A verbal warning was issued from the clerk about the dogs barking in 2017. The council decided that Michael would talk to the resident first before sending a letter of ordinance violation.
The Old Town Hall fridge needs a repair or a replacement.
The majority of the renters of the town hall use the fridge but the council was unsure if a new one was appropriate. Joe will look into used fridges and update the council with a cost next month.
The council members gave their reports.
Joe Wandell asked about the weight room at the old town hall. He has interested people willing to help set up the weights but wondered about how the public could utilize it. He also encouraged the council to start thinking about Cleveland Days. He emphasized the need for many volunteers. A meeting will be held in February sometime. There will be more advertising for the planning meetings. Brydi would like to revamp the youth council.
Kristen has not been to a recreation meeting for some time. She said the Christmas party was a success. The fresh tree was great. She is hoping for more participation next year.
Michael thanked the council for their time. He wants to make Cleveland Town better. He also informed the council that he would be submitting his letter of resignation as fire chief next month.
The council talked about the future of the old town hall. Brydi would like to see the building used more. The council is willing to discuss options for the old town hall and it’s future.
