The Emery County Community Theater will present Once Upon a Mattress on March 14, 15, 16, 17. There will be a matinee at 2 p.m. on March 17. The production will take place at Emery High beginning at 7 p.m. each evening.
Once Upon a Mattress is a musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer.
The play was written as an adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Princess and the Pea.
Once Upon a Mattress is a popular choice for high school drama programs and community theater groups.
The original production opened on May 11, 1959, at the off-Broadway Phoenix Theater.
The Community Theater production will include Angela Paskett and John Hughes as the minstrel and the jester. The domineering queen is played by Tricia Erickson.
Tasha Jewkes takes on the role of the Princess from the swamp who has to pass the queen’s test to see if she is suitable to marry her son, Dauntless the Drab.
Things are complicated when one of the Knight’s Fair Lady’s is with child. The queen has made a decree that no one in the kingdom can get married until her son gets married. So the Knight rushed out to find another princess for the queen to test.
