Last week the Emery High Lady Spartan softball team played the San Juan Broncos twice, first on the road and then at home, but the end result was the same each time, San Juan won the game.
Tuesday in Blanding the Spartans could manage to get just three base hits and three walks as they lost the game 16-0. Addy Healy had two singles in the game and Bailey Huggard had the hit, another single. Three Spartans drew bases on balls, Carlie Robinson, Megan Dawes and Larissa Thompson were those Lady Spartans. The score of the game after three innings was 3-0 but Emery gave up 13 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the game was over.
On Friday in Castle Dale Emery lost again, this time by the score of 9-7 in a game that went seven innings. San Juan led 3-0 after one inning, 6-0 after five innings and then 6-2 after six innings. In the top of the seventh the Spartans gave up two more runs to trail 9-2. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Emery bats finally came alive.
Addy Healy started the inning off with a double, her second base hit of the day. Madisyn Alton followed with a fly ball for an out and Morgann Donaldson followed with a ground out to the first baseman. With two outs, Emery got five straight batters on base to narrow the gap. Huggard hit a double, Robinson hit a single, Reagan Rasmussen got on base due to an error, Adri Childs hit a double and Dawes had a single. Pinch-hitter Jayla Weston ended the inning with a ground out. Emery lost the game but they actually outhit the Broncos 16 to 13. San Juan unfortunately for the Spartans took advantage of three Spartan errors that might have led to over half of their run total.
Emery will travel to Payson this week on Saturday to play in a tournament that will probably have them play four games throughout the day.
