Spring Sports rapidly coming to a close

The 2018 Utah high school spring sports season is rapidly coming to a close. Three out the five spring sports will begin their Utah State tournaments this week.
Baseball and soccer teams will start state play later this week. Girl’s golf will be held next week and state track will be held on May 18-19 at BYU. The Region 15 girls golf tournament will be played this week at Carbon Country club and then State will be May 8-9 at Cove View Golf Course in Richfield.
In state track, Braiden Ivie has qualified for the state meet in the 100-meter race and the 200-meter race. Ivie has run the 100 in 10.83 seconds and has the fastest time of any 3-A sprinter and is only .01 seconds off having the fastest time in the state in any category. Ivie also has the sixth fastest time in the state in the 200-meters and is the fastest 3-A racer. Bethany Justice has qualified in the 100-meters, the 200-meters and the 400-meter races.
The Emery High boys’ soccer team will host Union this Thursday on the Spartan field. Game time is 7 p.m.
Emery is the top seed out of region 15 and Union is the sixth seed from region 14. Emery finished region with a 7-2-1 record and the season with a 9-4-1 record.
Emery baseball is currently tied for fifth in region 15 with North Sanpete and both teams have one game to play. Emery will close out the region season Tuesday at Richfield High, a team that is tied for the region lead with South Sevier. Emery’s record is 4-7 and their season record is11-10. The first round of 3-A State baseball is this Saturday and Emery will be on the road depending on their finish.
The Emery High Lady Spartan softball team defeated Richfield High last Friday afternoon and guaranteed themselves a place in the 3-A State softball tournament that also starts this Saturday at the host schools.
The hosts schools are the region champions of regions 13, 14 and 15 and the second-place team from region 13 this season. Emery’s destination is unknown at this time.
Region 15 finds North Sanpete on top with a 10-1 record followed by Manti at 9-3, South Sevier at 8-3, San Juan at 5-6, Emery and Grand at 3-8 and Richfield in the final spot with a 1-10 region record. Emery will travel to Richfield to close out the region season this Tuesday and then will travel to Salina to face North Sevier on Wednesday in a non-region contest.
