Start Date:  June 4, 2018                              Size:  17,697 acres
Percent Contained:  73%
Helicopters: 7                                                Engines:  18
Crews:  6                                                     Total Personnel:  369

Some crews have been staying at the Indian Creek Campground in Upper Joe’s Valley to reduce their drive time to East Mountain where they have been working. They watch the morning briefing each day through a live video feed.
Summary:  Yesterday fire activity persisted in Crandall Canyon. The Crandall Canyon Mine Memorial continues to remain well protected and untouched by the fire, and firefighters will begin to mop up any remaining heat around the memorial area. In addition to mop up, crews will be securing the road going to Crandall Canyon Mine Memorial.

The Red Flag Warning in effect the past three days ended last night as a cold front came through. Today will have lower temperatures in the mid 70s, calmer winds, and higher relative humidity. Spot fires from the previous day’s fire activity have continued to hold in the aspen stands with little to no spread. Some areas of remaining heat and smoke on the fire are inaccessible due to steep cliff faces but also pose little threat of spread and fire growth. Firefighters will continue to monitor these areas.

The spike camp in place at Indian Creek will be taken down today and the crews that have been staying there will join the main incident command post.  One crew is camped overnight on the northeast portion of the fire, to minimize travel exposure and time to their assigned area. Crews will continue to construct containment line around the fire, specifically from Little Bear to the north along the fire’s edge. Additional objectives include securement of the road going to Crandall Canyon Mine Memorial, continued mop up, and patrolling for hot spots.

Due to increased containment and decreased fire activity, a smaller Type 3 organization will take command tomorrow. The Type 2 team and Type 3 organization will be meeting today to transition information on all aspects of the Trail Mountain Fire to prepare the new team to manage it.  The Type 3 organization will have fewer personnel as a result of the successful accomplishments to date.

Closures:  If you’re planning to recreate in the vicinity this weekend, please be mindful that wildland fires are constantly changing environments. Check fire conditions and closure areas via links below before heading out.
The Manti-La Sal National Forest has an area closure in effect around the fire. See a map and description of the area at:  https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/maps/5830.  Horse Canyon Trailhead, Indian Creek Campground, Little Bear Campground, Lower Little Bear Campground, and Riverside Campsite are closed.  Highway 31 is open, but please drive with caution.
