LAWRENCE- David Leroy Fillmore passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Aug. 11, 2018 at the age of 82.
He was born Nov. 6, 1935 to Cloyd C. Fillmore and Lucille Mae Christiansen in Castle Dale, Utah. He was the oldest of six children and grew up on the family farm in Lawrence. With the lunch money from his siblings, David hitchhiked to Salt Lake City to join the Marines instead of going to school. He made his way to basic training in San Diego and then spent the next two years serving our country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged due to injury. This injury followed him through his life providing him with the posture that most people would recognize him by.
After leaving the military he married Connie Perez and had two children, Carol and Clint. They later divorced. He spent many years herding sheep on Middle Mountain and in Sinbad. He then married Thora (Ann) Oviatt Nov. 25, 1966 and became the dad to five more children: Curtis, Randy, Ricky, Michelle and Billy. Together they added two more daughters, Doreen and Darcy. He bought the sheep herd and family farm from his parents in Lawrence where they raised their children. The marriage was later solemnized June 22, 2000 in the Manti Temple.
He eventually made his way off the mountain and joined the Emery County Sheriff’s Department where he served for 25 years. After becoming Lieutenant he was known as Louie to everyone he worked with. David will be remembered as a friend to everyone and also by his Pipe, his Pranks and his “Visions”.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, daughters: Carol (Tim) Hill, Doreen (David) Shorts and Darcy (Ryan) Johansen, sons: Curtis (Boe) Taylor, Randy (Richelle) Taylor and son-in-law Greg Frandsen, siblings: Merrill (Freda) Fillmore, Myrle (Wes) Tanner, Joan (Sam) McCloud, Dee (Renae) Fillmore, Lee (Irene) Fillmore and his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
