PRICE – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, coach, neighbor and friend, David Grover Smith unexpectedly returned to his Heavenly Father due to an industrial accident on Sept. 16, 2018. He was taken from us way too soon, but we know he left an impression on so many lives while he was here.
Dave was born on Oct. 6, 1952 in Richfield, Utah to Grover Leroy and Ida Mae Barney Smith. He was raised on a dairy farm in Circleville where he learned a great work ethic at a young age. Dave was the father of Amy (Wayne) Taylor, Barry (Char) Smith, Roger Smith and Candice (Bryce) Blood. He was able to raise his children on that same farm. Here is where he taught them vital life skills.
Dave Coached wrestling at Piute High School for 17 years, Parowan High School for one year, and Carbon High School for nine years. He was voted coach of the year many times in his coaching career. Coach Smith tremendously affected the lives of many athletes on and off the mat.
Dave married the love of his life, Kathy Hanna, on Oct. 14, 2000. Together they plotted, planned and established a successful business and life they were proud of. Dave loved Kathy’s children, Melaine (Eric) Mainord, DaShell (Matt) Landvatter and Chayse (Alisha) Hansen. He was an amazing “Dad” to them all.
Dave’s greatest love was his family. He loved Kathy and they made a perfect pair. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and never had a conversation where he didn’t brag about them.
Dave worked many occupations throughout his life, including: dairy farmer, state road worker, mechanic, forest service, equipment operator, teacher, coach, rancher, EMT, firefighter, city council, and many, many more. He was always willing to give a helping hand and has helped a countless number of friends and strangers.
Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children; his brothers and sisters, Wayne, Terry, Judy and Sandra; his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a community of friends.
Preceded in death by his parents.
