The State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sydnee Dickson will visit 10 school districts in an outreach effort meant to help her understand how statewide education policies are carried out on the local level and to listen to concerns and thoughts of educators in those areas.
This year’s “Listening Tour” began Sept. 18 in the Emery School District. Dickson will spend this week visiting schools in southwestern Utah, also including one day in Grand and two days in San Juan school districts.
Dickson has dedicated several days over the next two months for the visits, which include meetings with local policy makers, school visits, and other stops as suggested by local educators. She will also visit some charter schools.
On October. 29-30, Dickson will stop at Antimony Elementary in Garfield School District, where she attended school as a child.
“I am proud to have started my early school years in a two-room school house in Antimony. Some of my greatest life lessons were taught in those early grades, where my grandmother was my teacher. I look forward to revisiting to both relive the magic and creativity of rural education,” Dickson said.
