Cory Cornish
FERRON – Cory Shawn Cornish, age 27, passed away Dec. 28, 2001 as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Cory was born May 15, 1974 in Manhattan, Kan., to Arthur M. and Sherrie L. Cornish. Cory married Danielle Marie Rollins in Ferron on April 21, 2001. Their son Kemmer Lee Cornish was born Dec. 3, 2001.
He attended school in Kearns and Eureka, graduated from Tintic High School in 1992. As a youth, Cory was active in scouting and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Cory served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the California, Sacramento mission. Cory was a loving husband and devoted father. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Cory liked Western music and wrote Cowboy poetry.
Cory is survived by wife and son of Ferron; parents, of Eureka; sisters, Tisha (Ronnie) Ross, Eureka; Katrina (Richard) Clements, Orem; Jada (Javee) Lowe, Santaquin; Anitra Cornish and Deidra Cornish, Eureka. Sister, Anitra Ruth Cornish, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Thur. Jan. 3, at the Ferron LDS Stake Center. A viewing was Fri. Jan. 4, at the Eureka LDS Ward building . Interment followed in the Eureka Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Cory Cornish Memorial Fund at Fausett Mortuary in Price and Holiday Hills Funeral Home in Santaquin.
Tony Sanfelice
‘Gone fishing’
HELPER- Tony Alfonso Sanfelice, age 86, passed away Fri. Dec. 28, 2001 in Price.
He was born Dec. 12, 1915 in Park City, the son of Frank and Nora Shelton Sanfelice, Married Rose Felice March 4, 1936 in Price. She died May 23, 1989.
Tony retired from the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad after 45 years of service as a locomotive engineer. Member of the UMWA where he worked many years in the majority of coal mines in Carbon County. Tony was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a passion for horses that came from growing up on a large ranch in the Uintah Basin. He was an expert with a rope and he performed many tricks with his lariat rope, while on horseback. Tony’s youth was greatly influenced by his very close relationship with members of the Ute Indian Tribe. He loved to play the guitar, harmonica and sing.
Survived by son, Rudy Sanfelice, Helper; brother, Bernard Sanfelice, Folsom, Calif.; sisters, Shirley Bench, Spokane, Wash.; Norma Herring, Reno, Nev.; grandchildren, Gino Sanfelice, California; Chris Sanfelice, Gina (Erik) Straus; great-granddaughter, Erika Nicole Straus, all of Salt Lake City; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and granddaughter, Yvette Sanfelice.
Funeral Mass Wed. Jan. 2, St. Anthony Catholic Church. Committal service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
June Marshall Prettyman
ELMO, OATMAN, Ariz. – Our mom began her life in Mutual, a small mining community.
She was born to James B. Marshall and Dorothy Haycock.
She lived most of her life in Carbon and Emery counties and spent the last two years in another small mining community called Oatman, Ariz.
Friends tell us her children and their families were her pride and joy. Many happy hours were spent with her family and friends in both the desert and forests riding horses, taking pictures and enjoying the sights.
She loved all animals and the wonders of nature. Her yard in Elmo won her the title of Tropical Rain Forest and always found her digging, cutting and transplanting. Walking with her friends and their dogs allowed them to solve all the problems of the world.
In Arizona she supported the Chamber of Commerce by making her special candy for the bake sales and dressing in old-fashioned attires to support the re-enactments of the gunfights held daily on the streets of Oatman.
A memorial was hosted in Oatman by the Gunfighters and Golddiggers organizations. Wild Bill, the local cowboy poet, wrote a poem for “Flame” and many residents told of her lighting the fire in them when they were down.
She will be greatly missed by the whole town.
Monday, another memorial was in Price for friends and family. Again her friends spoke of her love of family, animals and nature.
Mom will be missed by all who knew her. We love you.

Leo Nielsen
CASTLE DALE – Leo Nielsen, age 91, passed away at the home of his son in Castle Dale on Jan. 3, 2002 of causes incident to age.
Leo was born on April 15, 1910 in Winter Quarters to Christian Ed Nielsen and Sarah Evelyn Gibson. Married Barbara Reo Cash March 31, 1936 in Castle Dale. She passed away on Sept. 2, 1963. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on Oct. 7, 1995. He later married Bernice Blackburn Davis on May 31, 1968. She passed away on Jan. 3, 1995.
Leo worked in the coal mine at Castle Gate for 18 years. He was owner and operator of Leo’s Place in Castle Dale for 21 years. Employee of Emery County Road Department for 17 years, from which he retired in 1973.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening (there were no weeds in his garden) and just spending time with his family. He was a member of the LDS Church and a lifetime member of BPO Elks in Price.
He is survived by his son, Chris and Sunny Nielsen; stepchildren, Dixie and Russell Swasey, Kathleen and Vernell Rowley, Dale Davis; three brothers, Ted and Ellen Nielsen, Dee and Beverly Nielsen and Glen and Alice Nielsen; 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by Reo and Bernice; infant daughter, Reo Louise; six sisters, Marie Jensen, infant Rene Nielsen, Edna Hansen, Erma Nelson, Georgia Teeter and Evelyn Empy; and stepsons, Earl Davis and Ronald Davis.
Funeral services were Mon. Jan. 7, at the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Burial followed in the Castle Dale Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Danny Berdell Bentley
FERRON – Danny Berdell Bentley, age 46, passed away Dec. 30, 2001, in the Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Ferron, of pneumonia after suffering from Multiple Sclerosis for 22 years. He was born June 17, 1955, in Cedar City, to D. Berdell and Mary Lue Madsen Bentley. He married Deborah LaRue Babcock in 1972, later divorced. Later married Karen Curfew in 1976, and they were later divorced.
Danny loved working on cars and worked construction until age 24 when he was diagnosed with MS and was forced to retire.
He is survived by children: Stacy (Sean) Huston of Oregon, Danny Berdell Bentley II of Kansas, Michael Allen (Cara) Bentley of Kansas, two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, one step-son, and one step-daughter, parents of Ferron, brother Lawrence Troy (Tammy) Bentley of Huntington, and sister Debra (Richard) Burr of Grantsville. Preceded in death by brother Tommy Brynt and grandparents; Deward G. and Maxine Bentley, and Arvel and Vay Madsen.
Funeral services were held Fri. Jan 4, 2002, in the Ferron LDS Stake Center. Burial was in the Ferron Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
John Goss
PRICE – John H. Goss, age 74, passed away on December 31, 2001 at Castleview Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1927 in Fruita, Colo., to Jehu Ambrose (Dade) Goss and Ruby Vida Thurstin. Married Laura Jane Whittingharn on April 25, 1952 in Aztec, N.M.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the submarine USS Sea Poacher during the latter part of WWII in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. He worked various occupations including baker, logger and finally as a journeyman carpenter. They moved to the Price area in 1956 and have made that their home for the past 46 years. He was loved deeply by his family and friends and will be missed greatly. He would do anything for anyone and many people were the recipients of his great generosity.
Survived by wife, Laura Goss, Price; son, Jonathan D. Goss, Rexburg, Idaho; daughters, Stacey and Terry Dalpiaz, Grand Junction, Colo.; Janie and Steve Jones, Sumner, Wash.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and sister, Reba Hawkins, Vernal. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Frank; and sisters, Thelma Pfaffenberger, Jewell Coleman and Rita Clark.
Graveside service was held Sat. Jan. 5, Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, Colo., under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
