The Miss Emery County Scholarship Pageant was held on July 20 at the Emery High Auditorium at 8 p.m. The contestants competed in a swimwear competition earlier in the day and a luncheon was also held. The flag ceremony was presented by the Ferron American Legion Post 42. The National Anthem was sung by McKette Allred. Randy Johnson welcomed the audience and made introductions. The contestants were next as they introduced themselves to the audience.
Barbara Burke, Miss Emery 2001 and Natalie Johnson, Miss Utah 2002 then introduced the judges. Next on the program was the talent competition. Jennifer Jeffs, Meagan Rogers, Melinda Nelson and Kaylee Edgehouse performed vocal solos. Erin Jeppson, Candace Ungerman and JaNell Jones performed piano solos. Kelsie Anderson did a humorous interpretation. Barbara Burke performed a vocal solo which was followed by the on-stage interviews conducted by Randy Johnson. The contestants answered questions based on their platforms and random questions which dealt with many different topics.
Miss Utah then performed a rousing rendition of “Great Balls of Fire.” Barbara Burke then performed a song accompanied by a slide show which outlined her activities as Miss Emery County.
The contestants competed in the evening wear portion of the competition. The contestants were escorted on stage by four young men, McKay Allred, Kameron Stilson, Tayler Tanner and Damon Downing. Randy Johnson sang a special musical number as the contestants were brought back onto the stage to await the crowning of Miss Emery 2002.
Barbara Burke took her farewell walk as Miss Emery 2001. The first award given was the Spirit of Miss Emery which went to Erin Jeppson. The winner of the talent competition was Kaylee Edgehouse. The second attendant was announced next with Candace Ungerman being named. The first attendant is Meagan Rogers. Miss Emery 2002 is JaNell Jones. Miss Emery 2002 concluded the evening with the traditional walk down the runway.
