Work Suspended for the Winter

Nielson Construction crews finish up the paving on SR-10 where work will be suspended until spring of 2004.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Nielson Construction have suspended work on the Huntington to Poison Springs Bench project until the weather breaks next spring. Construction crews are completing the last bit of scheduled work for 2003 on State Route 10 between Price and Huntington this week. The UDOT project is more than 90 percent complete and is on schedule.
Nielson Construction, the general contractor on the project, has worked since last May to widen the highway to four lanes from Huntington to Poison Springs Bench. The north and south ends of the project are complete with the exception of some cleanup work, road signing and embankment seeding. The portion of the project near Huntington Airport will also be completed next year, and an “under drain blanket” will be installed to prevent subsurface water from penetrating the roadway’s subsurface.
Approximately 50 employees from Nielson Construction and a large number of subcontractors and UDOT inspectors worked side-by-side at the height of the project to improve safety and add capacity on SR-10. Both UDOT and Nielson Construction crews appreciate the patience of the public throughout the past construction season.
