Wanda Neese
PRICE – Wanda Neese, 54, passed away suddenly Dec. 28, 2003 in Price.
She was born in Orangeville on Sept. 21, 1949 to Walter and Jane Heiniger. She married Paul Neese Oct. 18, 1968 in Aurora, Colo., and later divorced.
She was the sixth of 11 children. Wanda was a nurse working in Manti and the Emery County Nursing Center. She enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. She loved going to the races and cheering on her boys. Wanda’s greatest joy in life was her family and especially her grandkids. They were her whole life
She is survived by son, Paul Neese; daughter, Rhonda (Cody) Austin; companion, Richard Straley; and grandchildren, Lane Neese, Brett, Roy, Cody W., and Tyson Austin, Cynthia and Kandace Owen, all of Price. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Harvey (Mary) Heiniger, American Fork; Grace (Tom) Humphrey, Orangeville; Garth (Lydia) Heiniger, Castle Dale; Betty (Gary) Cooper, Washington; George (Melene) Heiniger, Texas; Joyce (Brian) Vinton, Copperton; Ross (Vickie) Heiniger, Colorado; Pauline (Randall) Stilson, Orangeville; and Hazel (Jerry) Moon, Oregon. She was preceded in death by parents; and brother, Edward Heiniger
Funeral services were held Dec. 31, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Fausett Mortuary Chapel in Price. Interment was in the Orangeville City Cemetery.
Joesy Lee Ungerman
RENO,NEV.-Joesy Lee Ungerman, 20, died Dec. 30, 2003 due to injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born July 12, 1983 in Price to Garth and Nola Vee (Cooper) Ungerman.
In his early years, Joesy attended Washington Elementary School. In his early teens, his family moved to the Reno, Nev. area where he graduated from Sparks High School.
He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and boating. He enjoyed playing on his Playstation and being with his many friends. His main hobby was his pickup truck. His fantastic sense of humor and love for fun brought everyone who knew him immeasurable joy.
Joesy is survived by his father, Garth, brother, Ryan both of Reno, Nev.; paternal grandparents, Dale and Rose Ungerman of Huntington; and many, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nola (Cooper) Ungerman and his maternal grandparents, Evan and Glenna Wilkins Cooper.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3, at Metcalf Mortuary Chapel in St. George. Interment in the Washington City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary. Condolences can be sent through www.metcalfmortuary.com.
Ada Jensen Nielsen
FERRON-Ada Jensen Nielsen, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Dec. 28, 2003, at the age of 94. She was born May 9, 1909 in Ferron to James Clifford and Ethel Huntsman Jensen. She married Dr. Harry Stewart Nielsen on Nov. 27, 1929.
A lifelong resident of Ferron, Ada was involved with several community organizations. She served as chairman of the Peach Day Committee for 20 years making it a great and successful celebration. She participated with the Emery County Senior Citizens for many years and was honored with several awards for her service with their organization.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as the relief society pianist for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Singing Mothers and the ward choir. Ada loved music. Her love of music brought together a family orchestra with rehearsals in her home every Tuesday night. The orchestra played for dances and civic functions.
Ada worked at Ferron Drug and Mercantile for 15 years where she enjoyed her work and loved visiting with the people of Ferron. Ada’s greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her three children, Harry Stewart (Barbara) Nielsen, Charlotte (Bevan) Young, John Clifford (Shauna) Nielsen; 11 grandchildren, Anne Dumas, Stanton, Scott and JeNae Nielsen, David, Colleen and Nicole Young, Kellie Larsen, Christopher, Cole and Kinsey Nielsen; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Norma (Jim) Shiner. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Edna Petersen and Fawn Jensen.
Ada loved Ferron. She created a beautiful home there where she enjoyed her evenings by the fireplace. The days of summer were spent sitting on her swing. She loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers and her rose garden. Ada loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
The family wishes to thank all those who have cared for her over the years with a special thank you to the Emery County Care and Rehab Center.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at noon at the Ferron 3rd/4th ward building. Interment in the Ferron City Cemetery.
Bill Ward
PRICE- William “Bill” Richard Ward, age 82 passed away Sun. Jan. 4, 2004 surrounded by his family at Castleview Hospital in Price.
He was born May 5, 1921 in Clear Creek to Joseph Hyram and Emma Bunce Ward.
Married Helen Koss on March 11, 1946 in Elko, Nev; marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She died Dec. 15, 2001.
Bill grew up in the town of Clear Creek and once the war started, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. After the war, he married and moved to Price and worked at the Columbia Coal Mine where he was also active in serving as the Union President. When the mine closed down he moved to Cory, Colo. where he worked as a Federal Mine Inspector until he retired. With the loss of Helen, Bill moved back to Price and was well cared for by his family and the staff at the Heirloom Inn. Bill was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed his life and those around him. He always had a cheerful smile and a joke. He was always full of wonderful advice and had a willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by son, Joe (Karen ) Ward, Price; two daughters, Karen “Nikkie” Young, Truckee, Calif; Sandra (Wesley ) Morlang, Fruita, Colo; brother, John (Evelyn) Ward, Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren, Bill, Lisa, Cory, John, Jodi, Stacie, and Danyll; 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Helen; parents; sisters, Elvira, Louise, Thelma, Lola, and Erma; son-in-law, John H. Young. Funeral Service, Wed. Jan. 7 at noon in the Price Eighth LDS Ward, located at 995 East 700 North. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment in the Price City Cemetery.
Byron C. Olsen
PRICE-Byron C. Olsen, age 73, passed away Dec. 31, 2003 at his home in Price. He was born June 8, 1930 in National to Ira Glen and Myrtle Clair Bishop Olsen. He married Carol B. Hunter Jan. 12, 1950 in Price, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Byron was a 30 year member and past captain of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Posse. One of the hardest things he ever had to do was to get rid of his horse Butch. He always maintained a close working relationship with the sheriff’s department. He was a longtime owner and operator of Eastern Utah Produce. He loved the outdoors where he spent many happy hours fishing, hunting and camping with his family and tinkering in his shop. He was honored to be a past Grand Marshal of the Carbon County International Day Parade. He was always a hard worker and respected by all who knew him. Byron suffered from many illnesses through the years but always maintained a great sense of humor and never complained.
Byron is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol of Price and children: Vicki Wells of Spring Glen, Kent and Evelyn Olsen of Carbonville, Scott and Pat Olsen of Price, Barbara and David Maynarich of Spring Glen and Larry and Dalene Olsen of Price; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and two on the way. Also survived by brother Reid “Bill” and Lois Olsen of Helper. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers and three sisters and son-in-law Craig Pilling.
Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. in the Price 4th/5th Ward chapel. Friends called one hour prior to services and also the previous evening at Fausett Mortuary. Burial was in the Price City Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Monihan and staff and all those who assisted in Byron’s care.
Victoria Turpin
Victoria Martinez Turpin, born Sept. 2, 1969 in Price to Efren Martinez and Lynda Garcia. She grew up in Salt Lake City and resided in Colorado. She was a loving mother, daughter and sister.
Survived by father Efren Martinez; mother Lynda Garcia; daughter Amanda; son Skyler; sisters Effie, Saundra and Destini; six nephews and one niece.
Funeral service will be held Jan. 6 at noon at Mitchell’s Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to services. Committall service, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
Bill Nielsen
“Uncle Bill”
SPRING GLEN-William Poppleton Nielsen, age 90, passed away Jan. 3, 2004 in Price. He was born Jan. 26, 1913 in Ely, Nev. to Wilford Lewis and Louisa Perkes Poppleton Nielsen. Married Annie Mismash, Sept. 13, 1932 in Spring Canyon.
Longtime resident of Carbon County where he was a retired member of the UMWA Local #8622 with 30 years of dedicated service. In 1950 Bill began working at Kilfoyle’s in Price where he worked for 26 years. He was an active member of the Helper Lion’s Club for 10 years and a honorary life member of Price Elk’s Lodge #1550. Bill enjoyed traveling, woodworking and working in his yard. He will be dearly missed by his family and a community of friends.
Survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Annie Nielsen, Price; daughter, Frances Ann (LaMar) Hussey, Price; sons, William Poppleton (Carol) Nielsen, Tempe, Ariz.; Lee Roy Nielsen, Bountiful; sister, Sophia Critchlow, Price; Harold “Pudge” Nielsen, Helper; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and those who fondly referred to him as “Uncle Bill.”
Preceded in death by parents, three brothers, Wilford Lewis Jr., Vernon, Edward Nielsen; four sisters, Katie Mildred Banasky, Thelma Nielsen, Rhonda Mae Udovich and Alberta Nielsen.
Funeral service will be Jan. 9 at noon at Mitchell’s Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
