Letter to the Editor: Who is setting the policy

By RON LOWE Grass Valley
Calif.

Editor,
President Bush has rejected stem cell legislation passed by both the Senate and House of Representatives. Bush vetoed a bill that three out of four Americans support, a bill that would have funded embryonic stem cell research; stem cell research that could help millions of Americans with debilitating diseases.
Who is setting the policy in America? Representative of the 300 million citizens or a vocal minority of evangelical activists.
One conservative ideologue has put microscopic embryonic stem cells ahead of living, breathing human beings. One man, George W. Bush, has put his personal religious belief before the hopes of tens of millions of Americans with fatal and crippling diseases – this I call religious extremism.
