•Abajo Mountains. Sergeant Justin Shirley has reported good fishing at Monticello and Foy reservoirs for anglers using mosquito patterns in the evening. Dedicated hunter Tierre Patterson surveyed San Juan County waters and reported fair fishing with green PowerBait at Foy and fair fishing with yellow PowerBait at Monticello. Black and yellow spinners were also catching fish. Sergeant Shirley noted that fishing at Recapture Reservoir and Ken’s Lake were slow. Fishing at Blanding three and four has been slow.
•Benches Reservoir. Fishing has been fast with worms or wooly buggers for trout up to 12 inches.
•Boulger Reservoir. Excellent fishing has been reported for 8-10 inch trout, using rainbow PowerBait floated just off the bottom. Another excellent end tackle has been a worm and marshmallow. Spincasters should try a small black and yellow Panther Martin or Mepp’s lure. Fly fishermen should try a small mosquito or gnat in the evening.
•Cleveland Reservoir. Fishing continues to be fair with baits, such as green and rainbow PowerBait. Fish off the bottom for best success. Float tubers have had some success with a silver Kastmaster, fished deeply with a slow retrieve.
•Duck Fork Reservoir. Fishing has been fair with a gold Jake’s Spin-A-Lure or gold and blue Panther Martin. The best artificial fly has been the dragon fly. Most trout range between 12 and 14 inches. Special regulations apply. Artificial lures and flies only. Closed to the possession of cutthroat trout.
•Electric Lake. Johnny Adams reported excellent fishing off the boat ramp with worms. He observed a lot of anglers with full stringers. Toward evening, Johnny said that fly fishermen did very well with small flies. Trollers should try Triple Teasers or pop gear and worms. Trout range from 12-14 inches.
•Ferron Reservoir. Fishing has been good with rainbow PowerBait or night crawlers with salmon eggs. Mosquito or dragon fly imitations have worked well in the evenings. Most trout range between 12 and 16 inches. One angler caught two two pound brook trout over the weekend.
•Gigliotti Pond. Fishing has been slow to fair. Best fishing occurs in the early morning or late evening. Night crawlers have been the best bait. Spinners have caught fish between prime feeding periods. This year, anglers don’t have to release bass or bluegill, which may be harvested along with trout. A total of four fish may be taken in aggregate.
•Gooseberry Reservoir. Fishing continues to be poor. Trout range up to 17-inches.
•Grassy Lake. Grassy continues to provide slow to fair fishing. Better fishing occurs in the early morning or late evening. The best fly patterns have been renegades and griffin gnats. Good spinners have been Kastmasters and Panther Martins.
•Huntington Creek. Fly fishermen should try a beadhead prince nymph with a caddis as a strike indicator. In the fly-only zone, a pale yellow dun has worked well with a soft cast and drag-free drift. On the left fork, a beadhead nymph with attractor has been effective. On the right fork, a good bait has been a worm with a natural drift. Spincasters should try a black and yellow Panther Martin fished across the stream. Please help us prevent the spread of whirling disease by cleaning your boots and waders before leaving the creek.
•Mammoth Reservoir. Fishing success has been poor, except in the early morning. The best spinners have been Kastmasters, Panther Martins or Mepps.
•Joes Valley Reservoir. Jeff Failor reported slow to fair fishing, after watching anglers for several hours last weekend. Boaters trolled pop gear and worms. Bank fishermen used worms or PowerBait. Traditionally, the best bait is chub meat. Splake stay in deep water this time of year. Bank fishing is not recommended.. Special regulations apply. The trout limit is two. Only one may be over 22 inches. All trout between 15-22 inches must be immediately released.
•Lasal Mountains. In general, Sergeant Justin Shirley has reported good fishing at LaSal Mountain lakes for anglers using traditional baits. In particular, fishing at Hidden Lake has been good with worms, salmon eggs or a red and white Dare Devil. Trout range between 7-12 inches. At Dons Lake, success has been variable for fish up to 10 inches. Fishing at Dark Canyon has been sporadic. Medicine Lake has been good with a variety of baits, flies and spinners for the 10 inch trout. Oowah Lake continues to be very good for 10 inchers. Warner Lake has offered good fishing with traditional baits.
•Lower Fish Creek. Ranger Jerry Jones reports using a mosquito pattern just below the dam for excellent fly fishing.
•Miller Flat Reservoir. No recent report. Fishing was fair to good last week. Jim Kulow Sr. reported about 2-3 fish per angler per hour. The best baits were green sparkle or orange PowerBait, cast behind a full bubble. The best fly pattern has been a number 14-16 mosquito, fished with a slow retrieve about 30-40 feet from shore. Rainbow trout range between 8 and 14 inches.
•Petes Hole. Fishing can be good in the morning and evening with renegades, mosquitoes or royal coachmen. Best spinners have been Kastmasters and Panther Martins. Orange PowerBait has been the best color. Rainbow trout range from 8-11 inches.
•Potters Ponds. Fishing has been fair to good. It has been best in the early morning or at dusk using renegade fly patterns, griffin gnats or mosquitoes. Kastmasters and Panther Martins have been the best spinners.
•Scofield Reservoir. Park Ranger Jerry Jones reported good fishing this past week for boaters still-fishing by the island with green PowerBait. Dedicated hunter Johnny Adams reported good success with orange PowerBait for still-fishermen in boats, or a worm behind pop gear for trollers. Conservation Officer Mike Milburn indicates that fishing for crawdads is excellent from the bank, using a chicken wing tied to a piece of string. He reminds crayfishermen that crawdads cannot be transported live from the reservoir. They should be killed by removing the tail, which should be placed immediately on ice to prevent spoilage.
•Willow Lake. Fishing has been fair. The best PowerBait color has been green. Best lures have been the Jake’s Spin-A-Lure or Kastmaster. Tigers range up to 14 inches.
•Wrigley Springs. Fishing has been good with corn-flavored Zeke’s or with night crawlers and green marshmallows. Best lures have been the Jake’s Spin-A-Lure or Kastmaster. Good fly patterns have been mosquitoes, may flies, renegades, black gnats or blue dragon flies. Trout range up to 16 inches.
