Ronald Atwood
EMERY/WAYNE COUNTY-Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and true friend went home to his heavenly father and joined his father and grandparents. Ronald Atwood passed away Aug. 6, 2006 at the age of 63 at his home in Elmo surrounded by family and friends due to a rare cancer called pleural mesothelioma caused from asbestos.
Ronald was born July 18, 1943 to William Dean and Mary Azelia Harper Atwood in Price, Utah. Ron was raised in Elmo on their farm along with two brothers, Ferrel and DelRoy, and one sister Dorene. He married Diana Roselyn Horton May 3, 1963 in Price. They had three beautiful daughters: Gaylynn, Ronda Francine, and Valarie Dee. They were later divorced. He met Nancy Kaye Wilcock in June of 1984 and they married June 27, 1987 in Wendover, Utah and had one son together, Derrick Dean Atwood.
He graduated from North Emery High in 1961. Ron was on the track team and high school rodeos. He enjoyed being outdoors with family and friends. He loved to go hunting, fishing and just driving around out in the desert. He loved going to Argyle and herding cows with his friends and one special friend, Jed Oliver who has passed on. He loved animals and animals loved him. You would always find Ron with horses in particular, he loved to ride them in the mountains and on the desert chasing wild horses. He was always with his faithful companion Bandit.
He worked at Deer Creek Mine 25 years when he was disabled from injuries sustained in the mines. A year later he was able to retire. He was friends with everyone there including his bosses. When he retired he moved to Fremont, Wayne, Utah for two years farming on his brother-in-law’s farm, then he moved to Bicknell, Wayne, Utah and leased Ken Garrett’s farm in Torrey, just pass to the time away. He made many friends in Wayne County who loved being around. He will be missed by all who loved him and knew him.
Survived by his wife, Nancy Kaye; daughters, Gaylynn (Stan) Silveria of Star Ranch, Idaho; Ronda (Darin) Gardner of Cleveland, Utah; Valarie (Mark) Stephens of Salt Lake City, Utah; son, Derrick (Samantha) Atwood of Orangeville, Utah; Lori (Mike) Conboy of Huntington, Utah; Sheridan Swasey of Elmo, Utah; AriAnn (Jeromy) Childress of Green River, Wyom.; Alison Thompson of Germany; mother, Mary Azelia Harper Atwood of Huntington, Utah; brothers, Ferrel (Sally) Atwood of Huntington, Utah; DelRoy (Lynda) Atwood of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Dorene (Garold) Horrocks of Fremont, Utah; 17 grandchildren; Kristyn Jean Nielson, Tanner Darin Gardner, Paden Morgan Wells, Orin Tel Gardner, Oakley Stephens, Shelby Lynne Stephens, Traci Stephens; Mistyna Kaye Young, Brittnie Don Conboy; Josie Mariah Conboy, Shawnee Jean Conboy; Samantha Marie DuCourant, Cody Dean Childress, Ashlie Jean Diann Childress; Richard LeRoy Demorest, Alysha Diann Dawson; MariJo Ellen Atwood, and one on the way. Also many nieces and nephews, special friends, Royce Allred (his joke wife); Ed and Diane Wall family, Chad and Vickie Hansen family; Mackie Hansen family, Hope and Hannah Hooley, Thomas and LynDawn Ellett family, Greg Ellett family, Steven Deem and many more numerous friends and his two companions Roxy and Shorty.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Dean Atwood, grandparents, William James and Laura Doreas Cramer Atwood, Samuel George Harper and Maud Luette Oviatt Harper Franklin and his sister-in-law Tina Atwood. His favorite companions “Bandit” and Pepper.
It was his wish to be cremated. There will be a graveside service, Sat., Aug. 19, 2006, 1 p.m., Cleveland Cemetery. Under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at his home located at 120 South Center Street in Elmo immediately following graveside. The family wishes to thank the staff at Community Nursing especially Joann and Heather; Dr. Krishna M. Sundar, Dr. John H. Mitchell, Dr. Melissa Cocoran from Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Monte Nicholas Nelson
Monte Nicholas Nelson peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Aug. 10, 2006 at the age of 72. He was born Jan. 24, 1934 in Ferron, Utah to James Rulon Nelson and Anna Louella Allermand.
Monte was a big man with an even bigger heart. He was always a faithful member of the LDS Church, with a great love for his Savior. Monte spent a year in the Army stationed in Germany, followed by an honorable mission to Denmark.
He married Janet Arlene Samuelson on June 11, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. He graduated from the University of Utah and became a math teacher. He loved music and was a talented bass soloist.
Monte is survived by his wife, Janet and his seven children: Lori (Michael) Bolan, Lisa (Dirk) Sandstrom, Linda (Lanny) Johnston, David (Marilee) Nelson, Arlene Nelson, Matthew (Abbie) Nelson, and Donna (Marc) Taylor. He also has 14 grandchildren, so far. Monte is survived by siblings: Sylvia Haycock, Beth Bogedahl, James Nelson, Anne Thompson, Mark Nelson, and Keith Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Ruth McConkie Nelson, brothers Clyde, Conrad, and Lynn, and sisters Corinne and Linda.
We celebrate Monte’s life and the legacy he left for each of us. Thank you, Dad! We love you.
The family wishes to thank the MICU staff at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City for their kind devoted care in the final weeks of his life.
Funeral services were held Mon. Aug. 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the LDS chapel at 4310 South 3200 West, West Valley City, Utah, with a viewing at 10 a.m. There was also a viewing Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Lake Hills, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah.
Alma Kraync
HELPER-After a courageous battle against mother nature and father time, Alma Mary Fletcher Kraync, age 92, passed away peacefully Mon. Aug. 7, 2006 in Price, while surrounded by her family.
Alma was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and the first baby born in the Storrs Coal Camp (Spring Canyon). She was born Jan. 21, 1914 to George and Mary Evans Fletcher. She married Frank Kraync June 25, 1936 in Provo; he died Oct. 19, 1970.
For the past 33 years Alma has been a fixture at Kraync Motor where she greeted customers, served coffee and answered phones. She is best remembered there in her chair, dressed in purple, with a peppermint in hand. She was a Country Club regular and an avid bridge player.
Survived by her son Karl (Linda) Kraync, Helper; granddaughters, Andrea Kraync, Helper, Brandee (Dalin) Fausett, Helper; grandsons, Karl (Amy) Kraync, Wellington, Frank Scott Kraync, Price; and 10 1/2 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, son, Frank James Kraync; and her 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service was held Fri. Aug. 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
George Greenwood
George Alma Greenwood Sr. returned to his first home July 22, 2006 at age 84. A resident of Hinkley since December 1966, he was born June 4, 1922 at Price, Utah to Alma and Mabel (Jensen) Greenwood.
The second of seven children, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, two of 5 sisters and a son, George Jr.
He leaves behind Carrol, his wife of almost 58 years, sons Phillip (Katherine) of Oregon, David of Hinkley and daughter Ruth (Richard) Langley of Barstow, sisters Joyce (Alan) Melson of Utah, Ella Santi of California and Lois (Horace) Thayn of California, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be Mon., Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at Mt. View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road, Barstow, Calif. After the service the family will be at the Hinkley residence between 1-4 p.m.
