| John Petersen seems to be glad to finally be in Ferron. |
On Sept. 1, 59 year old John Petersen rode the 122 miles from Provo to Ferron. John is the oldest son of Don and Laverna Petersen of Ferron. He was born and raised in Molen/Ferron and graduated from Emery County High School in 1965. ” I’ve always wondered if anyone could ride a bike from Provo to Ferron. Now I know. I’ve been a cyclist for four years. After completing a 100-mile ride around Utah Lake in August I made up my mind to try the Provo to Ferron ride. It was hard but scenic and fun, especially coming down from the Skyline Drive to Huntington. I won’t ever do it again,” said Petersen.
It took John 12 hours to make the trip. He left his home in Provo at 6:16 a.m. and arrived at his parent’s home in Ferron at 6:30 p.m. He spent 8 hours and 22 minutes “in the saddle” and about three hours and 40 minutes was spent as rest time. Most of the rest time was an hour and a half in Fairview waiting for his support vehicle to arrive and accompany him over the mountain. His route was Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork Canyon, Thistle, Fairview, Huntington and ending in Ferron. “There were two very difficult sections, one into Spanish Fork Canyon against the wind and the other up Fairview Canyon at a six-eight percent grade,” said Petersen.
