Keera Allred scores for Emery.

Last week the Emery High Lady Spartans took their season record to 15-3 and their region record to 7-2 with a pair of wins over rival Carbon High School and with another win over the Delta Rabbits. Emery defeated Carbon 14-6 in the opening game last Tuesday and then won the second game 12-0. On Thursday, Delta came to town and the Spartans defeated the Rabbits for the third time this season, this time by a score of 9-0.
As you notice by the scores, Emery is putting a lot of points on the board. Although Emery is glad to take advantage of any walks given to them or opponent errors that are committed, the story is that Emery is simply hitting the ball very well. Last week Emery banged out 45 base hits versus 14 for their three opponents. Eighteen of those Emery hits went for extra bases and three of those were homeruns. Even better, in three region games against Emery, Delta was able to score exactly no points and had two base hits to their credit.
Leslee Lake this season has pitched one perfect game, two no-hitters, seven shutouts and has been the winning pitcher thirteen times. In the last seven region games, the opponents have scored 14 runs in those games. Leslee has struck out 44 batters in those seven games and has allowed one walk.

Jalee Jensen catches the ball.

After the Delta game, Coach Beau Stoker talking to his girls, “Great, simply great. I don’t know what else to say, you are playing so well.” That probably says it best. This Emery team plays great defense has great pitching and hits the ball really well. They deserve their ranking by the two Salt Lake papers and every team should probably fear playing this team.
In those three games last week, every starter in the Emery line-up had at least two base hits. Jalee Jensen led the way with nine base hits including a double and a homerun. Leslee Lake and Whitney Allen each had seven base hits for the week. Leslee also had a double and a homerun and Whitney had three doubles. Candice Norton had a homerun and a double. Chelsea Skinner had a triple and a double. Bailey Kay had two doubles, as did Keera Allred.
In the first Carbon game, Emery jumped on top 5-0 in the first inning as the Spartans hit three homers and a double. Emery scored another in the second inning, three more in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh inning. Carbon scored two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Emery scored two in the top of the first inning, two more in the third inning, seven in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth inning. Emery had 19 base hits in this game.
At home against Delta, Emery scored for the first time in the third inning as they put up three runs. Allred singled to open the inning, Jensen followed with another single and Adriane Weihing followed with another single. Jensen and Weihing scored on a double by Lake.

Adriane Weihing lays down a bunt for Emery.

Emery scored again in the fourth inning with Markette Tanner singling and Keera Allred doubling to put runners on second and third. Tanner scored on a fly ball to left field.
Emery then scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tanner led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Allred. Jensen then doubled to score Tanner. Chelsea Skinner knocked in Jensen with a single to right center field. Lake then singled and Skinner scored on Bailey Kay’s double to the centerfield fence. Lake and Kay scored on Allen’s double to left field.
Emery is scheduled to makeup a rained out game with North Sevier at Salina yesterday and will travel to Juan Diego this Thursday for a single game. A win against the Soaring Eagles will put Emery tied for the region lead with Juan Diego.
